I do like a cropped sensor for some things... I do wish I'd have gone with Nikon from the start now actually, but I've too much canon gear to change.... A very honest statement there mate

Belting thread this JD.. cheers for taking the time out to put those piccys up.. much appreaciated by myself and one or two others i assume I could look at these pics all day long.. Judging by you're photos... looks as though you you've got the nack of roost shooting. Can you give me any pointers on the roosting front if you don't mind?? Do you just rock up whenever? or lay up in the day time and wait for the birds to fly in to roost and pick them off?? Do you, or, can you, use a light on them?? Cloudy night or full moon?? I've got some magpies to moderate...before spring kicks in....

I heard a Raven just a few weeks back, must have been other side of some hawthorne, just off my back garden. Didn't get to see it but that call is very distinctive. Get plenty of other corvids arond here but nothing that sounds like that. I did have to do quick google just to double check that call. Wish i'd have seen it now, don't think we get too many around here in notts, not that i know of anyway!

Well, that is a grand offer Lutra and I'll certainly take you up on that. As regards the 'Red footed' falcon, i'm afraid I'll have to resort to good old google for that one. Learning all the time i suppose and i don't mind admitting it! LOL. Real shame though if it was shot. Anyway, I'll be in touch soon. Enjoy your christmas, looking forward to having a walk out with you, thanks again.

Power trip mate... They must get a buzz from it! I've seen plenty of jizz guzzling fagots over the years... It's embarrassing....... grown men too!!!
-
Sorry i'm late replying Lutra. Thinking about it, probably not the same spot. I was referring to the 'raptor watch point' as its known, overlooking the Welbeck Estate, obviously in notts, not Derbys. We pass it a fair bit, especially spring/ summer on our way into clumber with the kids. Not unusual to see small crowds there when news gets around of a sighting. Apparently a good spot for Honey Buzzards, Gos and Osprey.... if luck is on your side! I might set my stall out next year, make a few purposeful trips early on, only ten mins down the road from me. I'm guessing you heard about the

If you're thinking about running this cross.. are you actually that worried about yapping? I know its a big 'NO NO' in the lurcher world, and i agree. Surley this type of mutt would be more of a 'mooching' kind. Bolting to it on bankings, running woods, spinnys, pit tips... fell sides ect. You'not going to be giving it 300 yard slips on six mile bottom or on Salisbury plain. Most only 'yap' on a sent anyway...not when sighted. Thats what I've seen anyway. If you're worried about the yapping... then you need to grow some knackers!!

That's a grand offer Lutra and I'll gladly take you up on it thanks. Won't be be just yet though as I down in Essex just for the week whilst the kids are off school. We're stopping out in the sticks so it seems, but it's only a stones throw from the dreaded m25. To be honest, I'm surprised how nice it is here, smashing bit of countryside. Tomorrows plan is to head into the big city and show my two young girls what it's all about! Did a quick google last night, and I was initially surprised to read greater London has highest density of Peregrines in the UK . 30 breeding pairs apparently. M

Bush Rummager, never done much at Budby. However, every year at a certain place I do watch the Honey Buzzards. Budy is a nice location.Me neither to be honest. Just never seem to get around to it. We had a week away on Skye a few months back, clocked over 1300 miles. We were lucky enough to see the Sea Eagles from the Portree boat trip. All seemed a little staged to be fair! Still great to see nonetheless. But to top that, great views of a breeding pair of Golden Eagles... right out of our cottage window! Absolutely awesome! Those sights will stay with me forever.Somtimes i do kick myself for
