  1. Nice job there, I think I personally enjoy shooting around farmyards more than any other form of airgun shooting (its probably just the lazy sod in me thinking it means less trecking about ). Out of interest what's the orange bit of kit on the second photo? I'm guessing at some sort of skid steer loader All the best and keep knocking those corvids on the head
  2. I'm away until a week on Sunday so I'll get in touch when we're back if your not already sorted by then
  3. If your interested I have a mamba (4-12x44 scb rir, if I remember correctly) which could be up for sale if you're interested. Its as new with box, tools, flip up covers, sunshade etc plus a set of lower mounts. I didn't seem to get on with it for some reason so may as well let it go seeing as I prefer my hawke panorama. I'm based near sleaford, if you're interested pm me (if you want to try it out I'm on a farm so that's no problem)
  4. We have one hell of a buzzard population round here, combine that with the b*#@* red kites decimating the pheasant pens etc and it does tend to rile one a tad! I'm all for conservation but at times there has to be a bit of control over what is after all a managed environment
  5. Sounds like your set up for for a promising bit of sport What sort of land is it you've got perm over? Whatever it is its enough to keep you busy. All the best with it and keep us posted
  6. Just to throw another contender in to the ring, have you considered the BSA r10? If not it might be worth adding to your wish list. I have no experience of the venerable hw100 but I own an s410 which is pretty much the same gun as the s510 (just has an unshrouded barrel and a bolt action) and whilst its a cracking gun personally, for me, it is not quite as clinically precise as my r10 which also feels more of a professionally finished bit of kit (plus its regged). Your best bet is to at least shoulder all the guns on your short list and if possible have a go with them, if they feel right the o
  7. I love it when a plan comes together Good luck with it. Sounds promising
  8. Now put a spirit level against the dining room door frame and make sure it's plumb... The only problem with that is that I put the doorframe in using the same spirit level as I've used with my rifle which combined with the same pair of eyes just makes you dizzy rather than finding a good vertical (by the way where do my plumbs come in to it :-! )
  9. That really does ring a bell mate. Every time I take the scope off the rifle or put a new one on its always canted one way or the other. I've tried the spirit level and plumb line trick but I don't seem to be able to concentrate on both at the same time I've been all round the houses trying and the only way I've found that works for me is to hold the gun in a standing unsupported position, wind the parallax right back and use the dining room door frame as my vertical marker and judging it by eye. Having put it in writing it sounds even dafter than I thought before but its the only way I've fo
  10. E mail or phone air arms with your serial number and ask. They're very obliging and at least that way you'll have it from the horses mouth so to speak
  11. If its only a "slug gun" and they all shoot OK out to 35 yards why spend £xxx on a daystate rather than £90 odd on an smk? Just a thought, now where's the stirring emoticon
  12. Hmm! Not bad I suppose Seriously, nice shooting and as you said it certainly highlights how good modern rifles and pellets can be. Now if only it was an R10 in .177 you were using
  13. Not really! When they were studying them we used to walk upto them with a landing net and a lamp and then they would leg tag them. Easy as shooting fish in a barrel. That's probably true but I believe shooting birds by lamp is somewhat frowned upon
  14. Leave the woodcock for the shotgun unless your desperate for one for the pot. They are one of the most challenging birds to take on the wing so, in my opinion at least, it would be a shame to shoot one stationary with a rifle. Having said that it would be a good test of your field craft to get to within range
  15. Nice shooting and I have to agree that that really is a WOW! stock, I'd be scared to take it out in to the field
  16. You're a braver man than me rez if you want to stick your hand in a cage trap to despatch a rat or squirrel as per the op
  17. I've said it before and I'll say it again but if your looking for a silencer for hunting purposes then virtually any on the market will make your muzzle report seem insignificant compared to the sound of lead on head! The crack of a pellet hitting your quarry will be far louder than the sound of your rifle so you will only benefit if you miss and require a second shot
  18. +1 for the Mora clipper, for the money you can't beat them and if you really knacker them up they're so cheap to replace it really doesn't matter. A tip is to go for the carbon steel version rather than the stainless, it takes a bit more looking after but I find it holds a finer edge for longer, is easier to sharpen and to me personally it seems more precise in use
  19. As above, a cracking write up. I've been looking forward to it since the teaser and it was worth the wait. Thanks for sharing
  20. Realistically it doesn't matter what silencer you use, with 90% of them the sound of lead on head is louder than the report of the gun so unless you're prone to missing and need a second shot a quieter mod isn't going to give you bigger bags
  21. If it was running just a little low on power ie a bit over 10 ft/lbs I'd say give it a chance to run in or try filling to a lower pressure (in order to find the sweet spot) but at the sort of levels your talking about its never going to come around so as above, back to your dealer, at that age its under warranty so its their problem not yours As an after thought another possibility is are you sure your chronos reading correctly ?
  22. Top job That should keep your permission owners happy as well as your good self
  23. Could also be that your scope is rotated left or right in the mount, use a spirit level on your rifle to ensure the guns level and aim at a plumb line to make sure the vertical stadia isn't canted one way or the other Edit - sorry coypu hunter beat me to it
