  1. Seriously consider BASC not only do you get top notch insurance but also legal and general firearms advice, plus they are amongst the most significant lobbying groups representing our sport in this country. Yes there are other companies and organisations offering similar services for marginally less money but I personally think they offer the best all round package and do the most work on our behalf
  2. Great!!! This fills me with confidence. Just renewed my SGC and applied for FAC with Linc's police, looks like I might be waiting a while
  3. To be honest I'd put money on it being the pellets. I've tried accupel in three different rifles (air arms s400 .22, s410 .177 and an R10 .177) and to be frank my 12 bore groups far better. I know a lot of people have good results with them but in my opinion they must be a pellet that only suits a,narrow range of barrels Another observation I have made of them is that they are seriously dirty pellets with a lot of swarf etc in the tin, maybe I've just been unlucky and had bad batches but they're a brand I wouldn't go back to or recommend to anyone:)
  4. I know this is going to sound a tad controversial but as an arable farmer my preferred management plan (with rabbits) is eradication. If they're about and breeding then they will be rapidly causing me massive problems as regards to crop damage (+ however hard you hit them they soon return in the same old places). I would love to have the flexibility to consider rabbit shooting purely as a hobby (laying up in a hedge with the r10 is my idea of a perfect nights sport) but I currently spend in excess of £4k a year on rabbit control (excluding losses) and that's with the help of a few local enthus
  5. If you can afford to get a properly fitted shotgun then by all means do it, it will make a difference. If not try as many of the shelf guns as you can and see what feels right. I used to be of the belief that if you could comfortably reach the trigger with the butt in the crook of your elbow you were good to go (my grandad told me so it must be true ). I thought this was fine until I swapped from my old Lincoln premier to my current browning and my English sporting classification jumped from B to AA, that proved the value of good gun fit to me
  6. Thanks for that chaps, I thought that was likely to be the case but wanted to be clear before I bolted it in only for the feo to tell me to shift it. Thanks again, much appreciated
  7. Hi I'm in the process of applying for my FAC (I've held my SGC for 20 years so already have a suitable gun cabinet etc) I understand that the ammo safe has to be separate to the gun cabinet but my question is does this simply mean that I can't just keep the ammo in the same cabinet? I'm currently thinking of bolting a safe above the gun cabinet, would this be acceptable or does it have to be in a different room or part of a room? Many thanks in advance
  8. Can't believe this has come up tonight. I'm just filling my application as we speak and was pondering the same point so thank you very much chaps for your insight as well as your impeccable timing
  9. If your struggling to work out the scb aim points on chairgun have a look at strelok instead. It takes a bit more setting up but it has the MTC reticles on its database and is at least as good if not better
  10. Due to a back injury I walk with a pronounced limp hence my my "stride length" differs from one leg to the other Any chance you have a conversion for this? At best it might help my ranging skills but failing that it may stop me walking in circles
  11. I must say I enjoy using my .410 folder over the 12 bore any day although I will admit it doesnt have the "knock down" power As you said its what suits you and what you enjoy, as long as it works it doesn't matter
  12. BBF (mod on the AAOC) posted this on the airguns BBS site earlier if it sheds any light on the subject "The site has been backed up and waiting for the new host to connect up. Hopefully we will be up and running soon. BBF" That was about 11am though
  13. OK. I'll give you that, accuracy isn't the only consideration but unless you're seriously down on power it is the criteria that matters above all else Any pellet in the RIGHT SPOT carrying more than 3 to 4 ft/lb of energy will give a clean kill
  14. I've just purchased a hw100 I've heard some argue that heavier pellets do well on PCP and lighter in springers (or the other way around...hahahaha), but dont quote me on that. btw, lighter pellets are more screwed in crosswinds, something else to think about and another reason why a little extra weight helps in the practical field sense way. If you're hunting, you need to think about a lot more in this sense This is not quite try depends on BC of the pellet and a lighter pellet is not in the air as long . Test have been done which shows a .177 pellet takes less wind than a .22
  15. Personally I would wholeheartedly recommend BASC they do a discounted rate for airgunners and are probably also one of the strongest campaigners for shooting as a whole plus you get an array of legal support etc
  16. As far as the Daystate vs R10 arguement goes BSA at least had the sense to admit they had a problem and do a mk2 version which in my (albeit rather limited experience) seems to have adressed the main issues. I'll give you they're still not perfect, mine only puts out about 10.5 ft/lb but seeing as it is such a tack driver at that I don't see it as a problem. Its nicely under the limit with any pellet and to be honest out to 60 odd yards it doesn't make a lot of difference to your prey if you put the pellet on the right spot
  17. Nice shooting mate I wish I could get my wife to come out with me on a shooting trip! Unfortunately she just makes references to Bambi and calls me a murderer when I arrive home to feed the family :-D such is life eh?
  18. Looks like you've done her proud there Fantastic job, well done
  19. What ever advice you take, if you decide to do it yourself, find a bit of decent off cut of hardwood (even if its just an oak fence post), drill a trial hole and fit your stud in that first. That way at least you will know youre drilling the right size hole for the stud to be a snug fit without splitting the wood and you will see how much you need to countersink it. If you're in any doubt about it consult a gunsmith first, if not go for it and be proud to have done it yourself (personally I find it the most nerve wracking job you can do on a rifle but its nice to see your own handy work each t
  20. I think we're on to something here, if the rats are bolting and you need to take running shots 2" 410 is the way to go You'll open up a whole new sport to yourself, you really can't get much more fun than that if you can safely go down that route
  21. I use a tracer ledray300 and find it more than meets my air rifle requirements and then some. Like the lamps mentioned above filters are widely available and the batteries last well (especially on the lower power setting which is all you need), plus its lightweight and quick and easy to remove/attach. As Charlie caller pointed out though shooting avian quarry (with the exception of feral pigeon) is a big no no! For starters its really against the ethics of good hunting practice plus if you got caught you'd be in a whole world of the proverbial
  22. One of the most beautiful stocks iv ever seen the graining is amazing, What you mean a bit like this The R10s do look amazing don't they? I've only had about a tin of pellets through mine but it only seems to improve as it runs in. Mine also seemed a tad low on power and now chrono's at about 10.5 ft lb which could be better but suits me as its man enough for the job but nicely on the safe side of the 12ft lb limit So far the local vermin population hasn't left any poor customer feed back :-D
