Need Some Help Please
jamesS410 replied to bully78's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
You're a lucky chap, that looks a corker, keep us all posted as to how you get on with it -
Out of interest does any body know how much pressure a 3l cylinder loses as it cools if its filled rapidly (ie in less than 5 mins and not cooled in water whilst it is filled)? I'm on pretty good terms with my local dive shop owner and he's happy to fill my cylinder to 310 bar working on the theory that by the time its cooled it will be somewhere close to the 300 bar I'm after. I have no way to check the pressure back at home and it seems to last me long enough shots wise but when the cylinder is warm to the touch as I leave I have it in the back of my mind I'm coming away with less air than I

Now I must say that's the type of permission I quite fancy. I've got just under 1000 acres of arable land I can shoot over but the farm yard is my favourite spot. I bet a semi urban permission would be a nice addition although I suspect you're under a bit more public scrutiny in that kind of situation :?

Google Pete's airgun farm near Chelmsford. I've never been, known anyone that's been or know much about it but I came across mention of it whilst browsing the interweb a while back. I don't know if its the sort of thing your looking for but may be worth a look

Don't worry about what pellet you use as long as you are capable of hitting your one inch kill zone consistently at your chosen maximum range with it. In my humble opinion, however, AA fields are one of the finest pellets out there for almost every scenario
-
I thought the AA s200 was a single shot?? It is but Rowan do a manually indexing conversion kit and most people I've heard of that have one swear by them

Suck em and see

From a legal point of view you can shoot avian species covered by the general licence and game species subject to the conditions specified plus rabbits, rats, squirrels and certain other pest species. Ultimately, however your permission owner is letting you wander around their property with a gun in order to carry out pest control and let you shoot for your enjoyment. Really this is a question that you need to ask the owner of your permission because if you want to keep it they have the final say. If they need the rabbits controlling and that is the reason they let you shoot there then that is

Except for the R10 of course

Sorry, only just seen your reply, I've been without WiFi for a bit. Thanks for the heads up, much appreciated

Bunny hugger pest control I like the thinking, could be a novel way of gaining permissions I just have it in the back of my mind it could turn round and bite you if she finds out

I didn't know you'd met my wife

I'm afraid there was a bit of artistic licence in that post moxy, I was looking at the polymags on ebay earlier and if I could have got a sample pack I would give them a whirl but I am a farmer after all, just couldn't quite bring myself spend that much on lead

Over the last few months I've being playing about testing a range of different pellets. In that time I've found two or three that I would swear have absolutely transformed my shooting, then when I run out of my new "best ever" pellets I'm forced to use the stash of AA fields that I have built up and every time my groups tighten up! I think the motto of that is when you find a pellet that really suits your rifle stick with it and practice with it until you know its trajectory and how it handles in the wind etc On that note I must dash off, some polymags have just arrived in the post, I bet the

I may be wrong but I think you'll find the f simply stands for fluted, as in the style of the filler cap and standard muzzle brake You're certainly not wrong in saying anyone that goes for any of the S4*0 series can't fail to be impressed by them, they really are cracking rifles

That's a very easy one and appropriate given your recent project. A very early airsporter (1950's era) that I restored, tuned and polished up. I chopped it in for an S410 as a result of a back injury meaning I could no longer lug the weight of it around or handle the strain of repeatedly cocking it. I'm a big fan of my PCP but if I'm honest I would kill to get that BSA back again I suppose that's life though, you always end up craving what you've just got shot of

I've had a play with hunter extremes in .177 sub 12ft lb and was very impressed with them up to about 40 yards. Up to that sort of range you couldn't fault them at all in my s410 but the groupings seemed to open up very quickly beyond that. When they're on song they hit with one hell of a whack but to be honest if you put the pellet in the right place dead is dead regardless of what you use your best bet really is to get a sample pack and try a few (if your using .177 pm me and I'll stick 20 or so in the post if you like)

I've tried squirrel a few times, fried and casseroled, but always found it a bit bland compared to other game. Maybe its just me or maybe I'm cooking it wrong. Any tips on how to get the best out of it would be much appreciated as I like to eat as much of what I shoot as possible.
-
Interesting. Keep us all posted if you try some. I find aa fields suit my rifle pretty well but I don't seem to be able to resist experimenting with others in search of that all elusive perfect pellet so I am genuinely eager to hear if you have good results.
-
Are the hunters not pointed pellets? If so experience makes me inclined to say stick with the standard fields. I've never tried the hunters but I'm yet to find a pointed pellet that flies with any degree of accuracy

Not on a SPRINGER you'll ruin it!!! why is that never had problems on larger recoiling rifles When you say larger recoiling rifles I take it you mean powder burners? With a spring air rifle the recoil acts a little differently as the piston moves forwards, stops and then potentially bounces back. This means the rifle will recoil backwards as per a powder burner then forwards as the piston stops, then depending on the rifle, back again. This combined with an air rifle having a massively longer lock time gives the rifle far more potential to move around due to the effect of recoil before t

My first though was to check the general licence

Another 2 For The Collection :)

Its not often you look at a post and instantly go "ruddy hell!" out loud Still like you say getting shot of the paint job will help. Not my cup of tea looks wise but I can sure as hell see the advantages of it from a practical point of view and it looks like it'll be a bundle of laughs to play with especially for £160 . -
Having looked at your link and seeing what's available personally I think you'd have to be mad to get the xl tactical when its only another £30 for the s200. It has a reputation as a giant killer of a rifle, light weight, accurate and reliable. I know for a fact it would be very high up on my list, if you can get your hands on an s410 for the right money though do it, you won't be disappointed I promise you
