  4. as it should be....hundreds of years of history ....this was for many years the only sure fire way of putting meat on the table by hunting land before the enclosures act....... for the family to keep alive...no wonder dogs are so much part of a family ..

  6. just hearing on the news ..the govt is going to change the laws on detectoring finds....really tightening stuff up....doing it under the guise of "culturey significant".....not value / age / type of metal anymore......so any finds like harness bells...harness adornments....cloke clasps ....etc and age of finds reduced to 200 years from 300 years....now classed as treasure trove and cannot be held in collection's and have to be offered for purchase to musems etc, yet more control and another turn of the screw

  19. cheers for that..............to be quite honest it works and throws a nice ammont of light......far more so than a candle...............it is 3/4 's full of parafeen and sits on the desk and no longer smells...but is always ready to be lit ....as we have several power cuts here from time to time...... i have been looking at some of the large drawing room oil lamps on the net ...some of them with glass shades.....i bet they threw some light as well...
  20. put the wick back in and trim it ......polish it up ....clean the chimney and light it up ....... jobs a gooden.........
  21. heat up the handle and melt it away from the body..............clean.....(it must be clean)...and re-solder......
  22. what about a bottle of Justeni and a packet of pork scratchings.......that was a good night out on a park bench...
  23. next thing was to .....give it a good old clean up and check what needs fixing.....the burner was ok and i had the wick out and washed and flattered it and trimmed it ...then a look at the body ...and as you can see ...where the handle joind the body ...the solder is cracked............
  24. they look reqally nice................i re-built a HY 77 a while ago..........not to that standard tho........mine was a barn find and has alot of the blueing missing / worn off...and had a very very strange mod on it......i will put some pics up of it some time... but that pair you have are really smart..........troulble with the HW's you need a wheelbarrow to cart them around ..
