That sounds reasonable. Anshutz barrel - 14 1/2". Ruger - 17 1/2".

I've been out testing my Anshutz 1417 and Ruger 10/22 against each other for accuracy.. Not the best of conditions, gusty wind and a bit of rain. 25 yards - not much in it; 50 yards - a bit more in favour of the Anshutz but at 100 yards a considerable difference. Bearing in mind the scope on the Ruger is not really good enough for my old eyes. However, what was surprising was the difference in drop at 100 yards. I aimed spot on, not using any mildots and expected quite a drop. The Ruger dropped 9 1/2" and the Anshutz only 7", exactly same conditions. Any ideas?

CZ 527 in .22.

A good sign of overpressure is the primer. It is usually obvious when they become flattened and completely fill the hole (no rounded edges left). With my .22 Hornet sometimes with neck sizing I was not convinced they were all identical so I lightly crimped, seemed to work fine. You'd have to dig in real hard to cause any problems.

I've just reduced the price of my Hornet on Guntrader, I could do with it gone.

The effect of the noise on rabbits varies, sometimes they are not disturbed. I think it is more often the "thwack" as the round strikes close by that bothers them. I've had one go down and a buck try and mount it after it fell - I got him as well ! The bit about .22 for night and HMR for day - again variable depending on location. Using NV with the HMR means you don't have to so critical in your range estimation (which is difficult at night).

Thank goodness it's fake ! I have enough problems with unexplained things rustling in the hedge behind me in the dark !!!

Just the same here but the noise was a big factor as well - new HMR on it's way. Know anyone who wants a good .22 Hornet ? -

Add a case holder, funnel and powder trickler A Lee Kit contains everything except case holder and powder trickler. Apart from the full length sizing die, neck sizing die and seating die which are inclded you might want a crimp die (about £12). Pity it's not for .22 Hornet - I have a full set for sale! -

My basic Lee Kit plus a couple of extra dies cost me less than £150 - ready to go.! Powder approx £36 a tub. (7,000 grains in a pound - you do the maths! about 2p per round), bullets from 17p to 21p each, primers 4p. Not including brass approx 30p per round. By the time you have loaded 220 you have saved the cost of the equipment. Mind you, be prepare to find that it is adictive and you will shoot more, testing various load combinations. -
Anschutz 5 Round Or 10 Round .22Lr Spare Magazine?
Cedric replied to David Aiken's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Just been out zeroing my 1417 and the 10 shot magazine got in the way leaning on a bag. -
Cut a hole in the top and weld a section of steel box section to take the Hushpower, line it with carpet.

.22lr is the way to go for a start, versatile, cheap ammo, very quiet with subsonic ammo. Only real drawback is the the bullets tend to bounce! Have to make sure of safe backstop. Good out to 100 yards for rabbits if you take the trouble to learn the trajectory. PS. each section of land has to be passed by the police stating which calibres are acceptable.

Stumbled Across This Useful Web Page.
Cedric replied to David Aiken's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Just the sort of site someone starting out shooting should read - before they start asking questions like " How far will a 2.2 kill a fox?" - you know the ones ! -
What Happened? Greater Manchester Police.
Cedric replied to courser's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Maybe not just Manchester. Lancashire Firearms appear to have given up answering the phone, instead you get a message citing pressure of work and directing you to their web site ! -
Take it with a pinch of salt! If all the ads that said" nearly new" were correct most of the rifles in the world were made last year !

Nah! Not changed my mind. I sold the remnants of the Red Dot powder I used for light loads, never got round to getting any Trailboss, could only get it down to 1,300 fps.

!/ Perfectly legal. 2/ Plenty of range/rifle time without the noise/ recoil. I have been trying recently for a .22 Hornet, not quite succeded yet.

IanB - I have yet to try the night vision on a HMR, I have mine on a 10/22 but there is always the problem of range estimation at night, the HMR would solve that.

Tremo - "What would you like to see every time you open your cabinet?" Space for another rifle !!! The Sako Quad I looked at had a synthetic stock which felt quite solid. The action was beautifully smooth and the trigger very good - a little long though at 20" barrel - but I have a hacksaw !!! Even second hand it was £50 dearer than a new CZ. Online prices for Finnfires are pretty steep. Anyhow, there is no rush. My FEO tells me he wants me to sell the Hornet before I can have another rifle, goodness knows how long it will take Apparently Lancashire Firearms Dept are so busy th

Brickhill - I traded a hmr for the Hornet, meaning it to be dual purpose - foxes and longer range rabbits. However, partly due to advancing years, I've only shot two foxes in the last 6 months, both close enough to have been easly dispatched with a HMR. I find the Hornet pretty noisy for the areas where I shoot, I also like a bit of zeroing (target practice) and 50 or 60 rounds through the Hornet is not doing much for neighbour relations The Hornet is a super little rifle and I've got it doing about an inch at 150 yards, reloading is most interesting as well but I've got to the stage wh

For various reasons I've decided to dispose of my .22 Hornet and go back to a .17 hmr. Choice seems to be CZ; Remington T bolt; Ruger 77; Sako Quad. Anyone know how to narrow my choice - recomendations etc.?

My Hornet (.22) is good out to 150 yards, haven't really tried it beyond that.Even it is affected by the wind, that's 2" drift on the target.
