  1. Cutting some off the front of the stock is not insane. It's your rifle, you can do what you want with it ! I thought of doing the same with mine and fitting a horn end cap to finish it off. The Swift Precision Stumpy moderator is very short and works well on mine.
  2. Just for daftness I thought I'd share some pics.
  3. It's like reloading - half the fun is in designing the targets !
  4. What is your opinion on the different ways of holding the rifle with your trigger hand? I mean thumb position. A grip round the pistol grip with the thumb or laying your thumb along the top. Pro's and con's?
  5. I had something similar with a Nikko Sterling Targetmaster, sold it on Facebook for a tenner to a guy who thought he could fix it. It's worth checking the moderator as well.
  6. I have Winchester, Remington and Hornady to try tomorrow in my new (to me) Sako when I get a scope fitted tonight. Just got to decide on which scope from my collection of redundant scopes !
  7. Try zeroing then give the rifle a good shake and see if anything has changed. This would indicate a scope fault - loose reticule fixings.
  8. Well, my FAC has just landed back from Lancashire Police with a slot for a HMR!! So, it's off to the Gunshop before this cash burns a hole in my pocket. Super two weeks turnaround from them. Those pictures will always be in the back of my mind when firing it though, makes me cautious.
  9. I've had a Greek lad onto me for some rabbits. He wants them chest or neck shot as the Greeks eat the heads!
  10. I made a case holder to fit in my electric drill (old socket with a rod welded on). Rotate the drill and play the tip of a small propane torch on the neck then drop into water. Bit tedious but works fine.
  11. That's true. I've got a Sako Quad hmr on order to replace my Hornet - makes you wonder. Has it put you off them?
  12. Did you miss the sonic crack of the previous round?
  13. When playing with my .22lr's I was having difficulty seeing the bull clearly at 100 yards (poor eyesight!) so I had the bright idea of making my targets bigger - it seemed to help a lot having a centre dot rather than a circle. I'm selling my .22 Hornet and feeling bored today I got it out to make sure it was OK in case anyone came to try it. I was very pleased with how it performed, the new targets showed an improvement over my previous type. It's just a pity I fired that fourth shot !!! Bet you thought that was a joke !
  14. It will be soon if I don't sell it. Got a load of ammo to use up. Had nearly 500 veiws on Guntrader and only one query! I thought of trying some target ammo but I'm only playing with them, bunny head size groups are fine for practical purposes. nasher - I was quite surprised with the Ruger at 100 yards, it's only a standard model. I don't normally use it at that distance, it's mostly for NV at about 50 yards. It might get even better once I have my eye operation.
  15. Hmr is the choice if you are fairly novice, your local Firearms dept will look upon it more favourably than a centrefire as a first rifle.
  16. Doesn't seem to be the ammo! No wind today and much better, fired about 100 rounds and no l;oad bangs. Considering my eyes not too bad groups. It's surprising just how much that little bullet drops in 50 yards.
  17. I hope it's not a dodgy batch, just bought a few hundred. The grease doesn't seem to affect the rifle but it gets all over my fingers when loading.
  18. Just goes to show - it's no good hiding behind a car door from a HMR ! Bit of fancy cutting you did there.
  19. Sent my eyes funny just looking at all those circles ! What's it made from?
  20. My 50 yard groups were pretty crap but I put it down to the wind and my dodgy eyes, it didn't occur tpo me it might have been the ammo. Perhaps it was, perhaps not. Always had good results with SK in the past. When the wind drops I'll try again and spot each shot.
  21. Out yesterday using a new batch of SK/Lapula .22lr subsonics and noticed some shots were definately louder and more 'blast' than most. Same out of both rifles, Anshutz and Ruger, both with moderators. Anyone else noticed this ?
  22. Thats probably me, combination of the wind and poor eyesight ! Here's a previous pic.
