Newbie looking for advice (like we do)

How much of a choice are you going to have if you walk into your local Gunshop? How many manufacturers, crossed with the bullet weights? Cant say I have ever seen the amount of manufacturers making 6.5 as they do .243 I agree that there are a lot of weights for the 6.5 as there are .243/6MM but not as many commercially available, as if you reloaded. Also, how much is 6.5 compared to .243? If you shoot a lot of foxes or Deer for that matter then it gets expensive, though with Premium .243 over £1 a round, not cheap either. Im not knocking the Calibre, shot it myself and -
just use some old cases mate That's what I was thinking mate, just thought it would "look nicer" if there were some proper snap-caps available for them! Potential business opportunity for somebody your right mate should never dry fire a rimfire because its bad for them. shouldnt do it to a centrefire really but the pin on them is much stronger

i would go for a secondhand tasco ag with jap optics mate. there front pa and 3x9x50 which is more then you need for air rifle. they have big field of view and the optics are stunning. john darling use to use one on his rapid. i had one and when new where £225 pound. they can be had for £ to 90 now

best on the market has to be the venom custom spring rifles but there alot of money. for out the box gun then air arms prosport or tx200, or if you want german then look at the hw 97k there never going to be as silent as a pcp because you have spring noise but they can be very accutrate with pratice. as for a scope you dont want anything to big as some spring rifle can be heavy anyway. somethink like a whitetail 3.5x10x50 would do nice or if you want a scope to use for different ranges a mtc 3x12x44 would be nice. i had one on my fac s10 and the different lines worked out well fo

a logun lamp will be fine for ratting. i would get the deben mini pro with dimmer. find there runs and bait out a bit of cat or dog food. smear it so they cant run away with it. they have to sit there and eat then. then shoot them

hi mate i was reading somewhere that 45 grain was the max to use in the hornet because the jacket wouldnt expand properly on the thicker 50 grain bullets like you use in 222,223,22/250 it said they use 45 for the hornet because the jacket on them is thiner and thats what you want if it is to expand

yes but with that mag you would want 2nd focal plan really so the crosshair size dont change

Mounting a scope and a bipod
jamie g replied to Paddywoodcock's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
hi mate way you have to have these mounts for the zeiss ? i have hillver mounts and bases on mine and my zeiss will be here saturday. i hope now i dont have to get different mounts for it ? my hilver ones adjust front and back for windage to. there higher then my old 30mm mounts i had but i should get the range adjsutment with these mounts shouldnt i ? i no the 4x14x44 conquest as more moa then the 6.5x20x50 conquest. i should still be able to get to 400 yards on the turrets i think ? but over that i would need a 20moa rail ? not that i would go over that anyway -
the oal has alot to do with it. my friend had groups about 1 and 1/2 inchs at 100 yards. he then seated the bullet deeper and the group size went right down to 1/2 at 150 yards he has got now ! Just as an add on to Jamie's comments, my rifle albeit a 22.250 has the bullet seated 137 thou back from the lands and will easily group 1.5 inches at 300 yards. I believe we can all get a little carried with trying to seat the bullet head right up to the lands yes mate it good to have it sitting back off the lands abit your be surprized how much the groups will tighten when back more.

there very good mate and i dont think you can beet them in there price range. i had one on a hmr then 22/250 and the optics are superb and wait till you get it under the lamp your see how bright they are and perfect for lamping. the only things i didnt like was the mildots and the short field of view. but you get use to it in no time. on my hmr with lamp i was knocking the rabbits of right left and centre and its only when you go back to a cheaper scope you really see how good the bushnell was. the whitail i had back on after was milky and the 4200 at night even at 200 yards was sup

the ranger mate ??? i see mate my sig you looked at ? no thats a 12 bore the top one on my sig the 22/250 is what im on about vader. its a mod 70 stealth here is a pic. im bias tho i like it because there great value for money, rock soild, has h&s stock so its soild, and on the usa forums they say how well they do in benchrest. it is heavy but i like hevy barrels anyway and because its very thick barrel it takes 5 shots to get it very warm ! not that you would have 5 shots out in the field one after the other anyway and what ever rounds ive tryed has shot good groups.

i would have a nice custom 243ai with a nice s&b pm11 scope. maybe heavy for deer stalking and to much mag but you could have some fun with long range crows and foxes to

if it was me i would get hmr for rabbiting. great bunny basher and nice and flat shooting plus it gives more range if you need it then 22lr. then for deer i would get a 6.5x55 but if they dont give you that size centrefire right away try and get a 22 centrefire. 223 would be a good choice you could have cwd and muntjac on ticket then. if they wont give you centrefire right away have hmr for a couple of months then put in for centrefire. -

comparing a deben one to a lecia is like a escort to a bmw the lecia will last for years the glass is much better and you could use it under the lamp. where imo when foxing is when you need it at night as ranges can be harder guess. some of the cheaper rangefinder you have to keep them dead still to pick the range off as well

Its finding the bugger! Guntrader.co.uk Good place to start...guns for sale section!! Cheers guys. looking now. Im a lefty. not many lh .223's on there. do you think they refere to lh if the bolt is on the left? I dont mind the bolt on the right but the stock must be ambi or l/h. im a lefty mate but i perfer the bolt on the right you can keep looking through the scope when on bipod then and just recock with the right hand stocks like on the 700 remmy and winchester mod 70 which i have are ambi anway i would go for a mod 70 winchester there undera

That's why so many of the tarts on here rate the 22-250 as a great fox round...anything from about 50-250 yards just aim and shoot!! close to 300 yards if you have it over a inch high at 100

The guy you mentioned didn't have any of the type I required available, but thanks for the help! In the end I placed an order woth the website dwighet recommended, just waiting for them to be delivered now at least you have them sorted now mate -
image it on a air rifle i bet the optics are super clear. would be nice to see one in the flesh. the only thing i have against scopes like that is the high mag to start with ! but again its not going to be used a low ranges really

Well I admire your skills here. I have honestly only found a .22 to be accurate at max 90 yards and thats pushing it ( constant zero I am on about ) I zero at 60 to be safe and know that the rifle will not maim your kill. I would say the at 120 yards you're pushing a 22 at its extremes. But if you are a true expert marksman you will know better than me and know where the bullet is going Regards hi in the right hands a 22lr would kill rabbits at 150 yards ! it depends on a number of things. 1 you have to no the rifle and scope very well 2 it would have to be a wind free day

just keep a little not of what you have been buying on your pc. thats what im going to do so when i go for open ticket i can show im using home made ammo. because when they look at my ticket they will think im not using the rifle if no ammo is entered
