  1. He'll be 2 the end of January mate.only started him on the lamp in October.still a bit of work to do there
  2. Was out last night with the lamp.was only out 45mins before the fog came down and ruined things.still managed 3 runs, dog caught 2 of them.done well to get the first one as I lost it in the lamp but he still nailed it in some thick cover. Grabbed two hobs this afternoon the haven't seen much action yet this season and took them for some action.no nets just had the dog.first warren young big hob bolted one within 10secs,dog missed it.was on to another one but it wouldn't bolt so moved on.older hob in and it was great just watching the dog trying to anticipate which hole it was coming out.tried
  3. I'd say if he's re-surfacing fairly quickly and you feel he's basically running through the warren he's probably just not going deep enough and following the scents deeper.even though a warren only has 5/6 holes there can be umpteen tunnels at all different depths.either that or the rabbits are making the warrens look shit hot then heading further up the banking and giving you the digit and laughing at you
  4. Try him with an experienced Jill if you can get out with one.atb
  5. As above.could well be a bone stuck in the back of its mouth or throat.ive had this aswell.
  6. So does most people prefer to run there dogs with collars on or off? I only put a collar on him when out with the lamp and use a piece of rope, but when out ferreting I prefer to leave the collar off cos am a bit para he gets snagged up cos were forever under hedge rows/fences etc
  7. Aye man! Just emailed it to david Attenborough to see what he thinks
  8. Lol gee's a break it was pitch black and on my phone
  9. Taking the dog out for a walk this morning as I do every morning before work.open the door and the dog is out just infront of me then in a split second he was off like a shot right right across the road and round the street.there was a bloody rabbit sitting in my front garden!!!!! He was in a neighbours garden trying to get under a gate where the rabbit obv ran.couldnt believe it.ive seen them up at the sports field and a little close to the houses but never in the garden.looks like the dog will need to be on the lead in the morning now or an accident will happen. This is a pic in another
  10. Its good to finally read about some dogs that have flaws and to see that not everybody's dogs are perfect..my first little dog gets me frustrated sometimes, his recall on the lamp is getting much better but when things are slow when ferreting he has annoying habit of wanting to go a wander and find his own rabbits.a stern 'here' and he comes back,he is still young so plenty time to come good but a pain in the arse
  11. Aye,there's still a fair bit of cover up mate.how'd you do?get many?
  12. Back out this morning on a bit of ground ive not been on since last year where we had a rdecent day or two.farmer had told me there was myxi about earlier in the year and there wasn't as many about just now.but I had a look anyway.there maybe isn't as much about as there has been in previous years was but there is still plenty to be had. Netted up the first set and had one after about 20secs.moved on up the wood where the dog lifted one and nailed it after a short chase.had a good walk about and left all the big sets that are defo holding more than a few for another day when my mate is there t
  13. Hit a lot of places hard this year I think mate.seen a lot of it on all my perm during the summer but thankfully it's no where near as bad now and I'm catching big heathy rabbits.
  14. Cheers lads! Nothing better than getting out in new perm. Railway bankings are far from ideal but always seem to hold decent numbers.atb lads
  15. Out this morning for a couple hours, dog marking well, had one from the first wee set then 3 from the next set.young Albino hob working well and bolted them all.hes fair coming on now.packed up and headed back to the car as all I was after this morning was a couple for the pot and a couple to feed the ferrets.back on Tuesday to do the railway banking that runs right along side the farm.i'll need to leave the dog in the house but this bit is loaded and holds good numbers so looking forward to that.on the way back to the car farmer stopped for a chat and handed me a bit more permission on a plate
  16. Cheers mate. He's one of the young ones.only 2nd time out.
  17. Few pics of when I was out on Monday trying to shift the hangover.only grabbed a hand full of nets out the bag as I was really wanting the dog to strech his legs.not very productive, managed to bolt 3 but the rabbits we'rent playing ball and all come out inbetween the double fence at the side of the field instead of bolting into the open field.still enjoyable and got the dog and one of the young hobs out.
  18. Day off work, rains just started, but need to shift this hangover so think I'll head out for a few hours with the dog and a young Jill
