Mate I used to be shit hot on complaining, in fact went I through a phase that was often quite embarrassing for my Mrs & I don’t mind admitting more than once making prick of myself. Only the other year in Normandy we had an even worse experience regarding crazy prices for actually shit food, no other word for it....... I’m going into one, the women is making out she speaks no English & my Mrs who is french speaking wanted no part of it which caused a big row afterwards! ? One of the worst experiences this year thus far..... Last May we finally book the local ‘posh’ place for our anniversary. We’d only been talking about it for 5 years ? So we get seated with a fairly warm friendly manner, but it’s belgium so often a little weird & never over top...... look round & no one in there looks like us, generally a stuffy looking typical Belgium bourgeoise crowd, but hopes are high! First course I push the boat out and order a 28 quid starter & when it comes its 2 prawns, 2 slices of avacado & a spoonful of sauce made from peas which taste

Casa Julian in the link I put up was simplicity in a nutshell. In fact I thought it was going to be too simple, but they nailed it, including the unchanged 50 year old decor!

The great thing about these places not being in London or Paris is your not paying the same overheads! I read a thing recently about the humble Parisian bistro starting to die out in some places because of this issue......

Firstly wilf I want to thank you for replying to this topic without referencing what a shithole England has become, it must of been tough mate & I appreciate the effort! ?? ..........only joking of course Yeah you have to be pretty unlucky to go wrong in Paris. I’ve actually only stayed there the once, driven through many times, but only enjoyed the restaurants over two days, which is crazy really as it’s only a 3 hour drive down the road! We must make more effort. You can easily get good food in Brussels/Belgium, but they often struggle with service & value for m

We made a New Years resolution this year to only eat out once a month & to go somewhere new each month because we were wasting too much money on average meals. Anyway that went out the window within a few months, but the general principle still remained. It just gets harder as I get better at cooking at home, which often means the more expensive restaurants are the biggest disappointments & we are frequently left wondering why we f***ing bothered! The Last Alaskans is really good. There doesn’t appear to be any bullshit, which is very very rare with these American series.

Some of my best encounters in the countryside have been with stoats or weasels. They are my favourites animals. I caught a weasel recently in a live rat trap, but unfortunately it perished over night, to say I was gutted was a bloody understatement, it was only the third weasel I’ve seen in Belgium!

Not sure yet mate. I got those & a normal box to split & started nearly two weeks ago & follwing the typical protocol apparently? Twice a week. Thing is I haven’t got any proper issues to reconcile, but I could definitely be more optimistic & positive at times. I read some stuff & watched some stuff & thought I’d give it a go. Maybe when I collect all the data I’ll do a thread ??
