  1. a former member of this forum who is well known for his input on the slingshot scene has been deployed to bassingbourne and has been in touch with me . i can assure you that any info about what has been going on has been drastically understated. these lybian trainees have been carrying out such acts of abuse and violence even to each other that would turn your stomach . to call them animals is an insult to animals who wouldn,t even behave like this. the most annoying thing is that to the best of my knowledge this story has not made national news [ unless anybody knows different] this is p
  2. i may be wrong on this one but i think accupels are not made by the origonal manufacturer. they used to be my pellet of choice but the latest ones don,t appear as good as the origonals. this prompted me to try different ones like the jsb / air arms type and falcon. all of these perform so much better than accupels in my guns. if you have not tried any of these may i suggest you do before bulk ordering anything atb
  3. i agree with what atom lab says because you don,t always need double bands if you are using 9mm steel ammo or up to 44 cal lead single bands can actualty be faster.even though they are easier to draw. also if you increase your taper to say 30mm to 20mm or even more 35mm to 15mm then the speed will increase . the only downside is the bands don,t last as long ,but when they do break it is usually at the pouch end which is safer because they snap away from your face, everyones shooting style is slightly different so try experimenting with different tapers and single bands if you still feel t
  4. i,m right eye dominant and hold the catty with my right hand so aiming with my right eye is no use if using a point of reference on the catty. it will work at one distance but the sight line and the actual tragectory line will cross over making closer shots to one side and further shots to the other. the advise above to use your left eye is spot on . i,m not good with my left eye for aiming so don,t aim at all. i keep both eyes open and use the anchor point all the guys have described. point your catty at your target making sure you are pulling back both bands evenly and hold it in a way
  5. thats an interesting catty next to the asda banded one
  6. 11mm lead i find is the best compromise ie small enough to be fast without dropping over distance but with enough oomph to do the business. these can be made with number 1 ball moulds for fishing weights. i usually get most things close in 15 to 20 feet catty excells at this qiuck opportunistic shooting if making them not an option try hex nuts for close stuff they can be surprisingly effective. good luck
  7. 177 bisley mags or daystate 22 falcon accuracy
  8. another thing i,ve found is that if you make your own bandsets / tubesets then no 2 are exactly the same [ or maybe i,m not very good at making then] so with each new set that you fit i find they fire very slightly differently.maybe not much but there is a very slight difference. with this in mind to get accurate with a bandset you really need it to last as long as possible to allow for many practice shots. and here,s the thing i find that heavily tapered theraband sets are most efficient , by this i mean they produce the fastest speeds for the least draw weight but by the time that i hav
  9. in answer to the origonal post i think a 3 inch target at 10 yards is fine. although i,ve been using a catty for a long time i can only say that my accuracy is average on a good day. end of a coke can at 30 feet. but in reality it you are hunting a catty excells at quick opportunist shots at close range at small targets. i used to focus on seeing how far away i could hit a target but found that when a close range huntng shot presented itself i would miss. not that i,m saying there is no merit to being able to hit long range targets its just how i,ve found things for myself. so for me its
  10. if you are using uneven ammo like stones then they can cause hard to spot damage and cause the bands to break. the bands supplied with black widows are usualy reasonably long lasting but are not the most efficient. as already mentioned you can fit theraband bandsets which are easier to draw , produce more power and consequently more accurate. the only downside of theraband as opposed to tubes is that they don,t last as long if you get a tapered set. making your own may seem like a hassle bit a lot cheaper and not really that difficult. another option for the blackwidow is dub dub tubes wh
  11. ok thanks politicians are if anything a predictable lot
  12. does anyone know any details of this new law or is it still to be clarified officially?
  13. my sentiments exactly if i,m forced to get a licience for my airguns then i may as well go the whole hog and get a firearm certificate if i do that then i may as well get myself a .22 rimfire as i can meet all the conditions required to own one. the reason i haven,t bothered with an fac in the past is because i couldn,t be bothered with all the hassle and my non fac airguns do the job. there have been times where i,ve thought an fac rated gun would be handy but again i,ve not thought it worth the hassle. i haven,t really used my airguns much recently but i wouldn,t be prepared to give the
  14. maybe its a race and the dog has just lapped the rabbit .lol
  15. asda bands come in a pack of 3 different thickness,s yellow lightest red medium blue heaviest i have tried them and they are better than you would think and cheap gamekeeper john does a video on them if you are new to making bands they are good to practice on without worrying about ruining tbg. i now use the red and yellow stuff to tie off tbg at the pouch because its so light and doesn,t slow down the speed of the pouch. i know i should use the constrictor knot but i,m crap at this.
  16. if your bandsets are 25 /20 taper then single bands per side would be better for plinking with 8mm lead and would make it easier to grip the ammo in the pouch. as mentioned above the double bandsets will get destoyed with that size ammo. 9.5mm is a better bet for hunting,[but shot placement is important] and is not expensive from simply bearings. even better for your double tbg, get a ball sinker mould off ebay and mould your own
  17. looped 1745 is good for lead also. for best results make sure you cut them to a length that means they are nearly maxed out at your full draw.
  18. joking aside lads , there is a point where if i take too long and overthink the shot i miss.[as i,ve demonstated all too often ,eh lee!] also sometimes when just messing about and quick firing i produce better shots than i should ,so there is a balance to be had .
  19. just read this gnasher if you can,t decide which hand to hold the catty in then go for which feels the most natural. if both hands feel the same then its best to take advantage of your dominant eye. by this i mean if you are right eye dominant hold the catty in your left hand and vice versa for left eye dominant. just incase you don,t know which eye is your dominant one , do this ; with both eyes open point at some thing small , then close one eye if your finger is still pointing at the same spot then the eye you have open is the dominant one. don,t worry if you like to hold the catty wi
  20. the link from atomlab is what i was meaning by the pin method but he has made a better job of explaining it. if you decide to use gypsy type tabs then use leather so it is kinder on the rubber
  21. what size are the double bands? ideally for hunting you will need 12mm steel or 10mm plus in lead.
  22. fps for your 1745 are 170 fps lee. yes these speeds are low and i,m using a short draw length at the moment but the temperature was low where i did the testing also using an artificial light in a confined space so accuracy is important so i used shorter draw. the speed doesn,t bother me because i was just trying to do a comparason between the different bands ,so the readings are relative to each other.
  23. recently got some orange dub dub and i,m pleasantly surprised my usual set up is double theraband with a lot of taper [30mm to 10mm] but as you can imagine these don,t last long anyway on testing the dub dub i didn,t expect much as the draw is light ,but that doesn,t always mean any thing. chrono test for my 11mm lead are tbg- 180 fps dub dub singles- 160fps yes the dub dub is 20fps slower but is easier to draw and i,m assuming will last longer . another surprise is that when launching my large 14mm lead they are more or less the same.
  24. as far as pouch material goes ,just get a leather handbag made of thin supple leather from a charity shop and cut pouches out or it. use a pin punch on a piece of wood to make the holes may get some funny looks when you buy it though
  25. i may have picked you up wrong when you said the eyelets are cutting through the bands because the origonal milbro,s had wooden inserts in the eyelets and i was assuming it was these that were causing the damage on stretching the bands. thats why i suggested the pin method , but if your bands are just going through metal then as bpr says any band will get damaged and the gypsy tab method may be a better option as already mentioned bycarlstoke.
