  1. thanks mate i,ll pick that up soon. good excuse to see your new pup as well atb
  2. thanks again never thought about band interference if too wide.. thats probably one of the reasons why doubles were created ,so i may have to stick with them or source some latex.. ta
  3. thanks for that, unfortunatley i don,t have latex . do you know the single equivalent in theraband gold
  4. up until recently i have been using tapered theraband gold and using 44 cal lead. to fire this ammo apparently requires double taperted bands [ the dimensions vary from one shooter to another] recently i started using 10mm steel and was impressed by the speed but found that lighter bands were more efficient and more accurate because they are a lot lighter draw. i also changed from double tapered 22mm to 11mm to single bands 30mm to 20mm and found the draw even lighter and more accurate. another benefit appears to be less breakages . does anybody know why this is ? also has any body d
  5. i found a bit about these dogs a while back and they were refered to as silken windsprites the breeder in america coincidentaly also bred borzois!
  6. interesting vid thanks for sharing. amazed at the dogs hold prey rather than killing or retrieving it in any way don,t know of any dogs that will do that
  7. your definateley training the wee man well . lots of kids probably never even fired a slingshot
  8. my bedywhippet is still young but will get into cover after rabbits, but he,s worked out that its best to wait out side for the terriers to flush them out. if he gets impatient he sometimes pushes the terriers out of the way and gets in there himself, but you can,t catch bolters if you are in cover and don,t see them come out what he is good at is when out lamping and a rabbit reaches the edge of a field [hedge or wall] and thinks its safe he will carry on and smash his way into the cover and make a catch. i,ve been told this is normal for a beddywhippet because they sometimes lack pace in
  9. if using 9.5mm steel then singles are best bands its only when larger heavier ammo is used that doubles are needed. have you looked at the slingshot channel websites theraband calculator? in some cases double bands can make no difference to lightweight ammo velocities they just make the slingshot FEEL more powerful because of increased effort to draw
  10. definatley agree that if an ex track dog is to be used in the field then try and get a small one and the younger the better so that training is easier
  11. i have had 2 ex track dogs and they were a pleasure to own and easy to live with, they were however injury prone and i had to be careful where i ran them. this was probably because they are not as good at stopping and turning as some lurchers and ended up having collisions. they trained up at basic commands a lot easier than i was led to believe and i would say that the younger you get one the easier it is. they are not the type of dog to jack and are totally focused on the job . good luck with your new dog.
  12. got a 1st cross 15 months old got him because my mate and i have terriers and wanted something faster ,which he is! i don,t have any experience of 3/4 crosses but the general opinion appears to favour them. i notice that size is an issue for you which it was for me and my dog is 20 inches and fits in my vehicle with the terriers ok i dont have problems training my dog but have heard of some folk who have with the 1st cross he has certainly been easier than the terriers but perhaps not as easy as a straight whippet. if you are used to terriers then i wouldn,t imagine you have problems eit
  13. i,ve got a beddywhippet, and he is turning out ok but can be headstrong at times . this is ok as i,m used to terriers but may not be ok for someone who,s not into that kind of temperement . having said that he,s a lot easier than my terrier and more trainable totally agree with whats been said about quarry and ground you hunt on. do as much research as you can so that you get what you like as well as whats required good luck !
  14. i would agree with bpr if you want to use 12mm lead then the band strength required will be too strong for that catapult there have been cases of the catapult shown in your link breaking when using bands of this strength be carefull mate.
  15. i would totally agree with what you say blackgreyhound my best dog was given to me because she would turn her head on the track. i also was selective where i let her run
  16. i have had a couple of ex failed racers and did a bit with them they were both good dogs but the better one was only 18 months when i got her so i think that helped with her training. i would agree that a pup would probably train up pretty good the only problem i had was with injuries due i think to them being too fast and not great at stopping for obsticles they were easy dogs to life with and i wouldn,t rule one out again
  17. hi, just joined this site i have a lurcher and a terrier and i,m interested in catapults also. looks a very interesting site with a wide range of topics , atb whipbed
