  1. these are the type of nites you remember ,was a good nite last nite filled the boots up ,and home safely ,try an electronic fox call for the ones that are quite difficult to get or a cage trap baited with fish
  2. not saw the videos but heard plenty so called experts, who havent been in the game that long, i start mines out with ferrets at 5 month watching learning by 8 months they are switched on ,then they get a bit more training fetching heel jump not had a yipper ,usaly all under control with mother of pups, mines are 8 months and can catch a rabbit, and probaly put a good show on most things, if needed to ,but better let them develop, and get manners and obeidence drummed in , but come late summer theyll be ready for the game beacause of the early controled entering ,mouthin lots of netted rabbs and
  3. look up and see if there a ferreting course or ,go with a pestcontroler phone up a few in your area, see if any rabbit properly, and have a day out by there dinner carry the gear , youl soon get to know people, and be keen to use ashovel till the last foot then let them do the rest as its there ferret youll soon get takers or even a few shilligs make a trade of for gleaning hard one knowledge
  4. ye its just a rabbit and when legal whatever got up, but if youve traveled and things get away and you think they should be caught it can still get exiting, i like a sporting chase unles its nessesity then job done and dusted ,years ago there were alot more corners of feilds were there was bramble patches over grown land ,always held hare rabbit and odd pheasant ,used be alot of carrots root crops used to get the collie lurcher in and hunt the land out hares etc or the odd rabbit would bolt ,great days , now all the good land were the hare once lived gone ,built over, shot to much to many cars
  5. as kids we had mongrel colie type lurchers great fun but were limited in pace ,but good for round bramble patches, the game is not about in some areas to have mooching style lurchers as much, we moved on to more speedier racier types that fill the bag were ever , but as yongsters we had some fun rabbit hare, we had great sport but were out run many a time, used to piss me off ,nothing worse than a dog trying his hardest and never getting there ,but as 12 13 and 14 year olds never new any better until we got a lone of a track greyhound then saw other types of lurchers , great days all the same
  6. lamping had just taken off early eighties it was mainly daylite coursing ferreting and a bit rooster shooting back then ,back then if a dog couldnt catch a hare on his own or paired he wasnt a dog ,more hares then and less restrictions great days ,my early memories of lamping were the cur crosses could get a hare, but not in the daylite as the hare was to clever fast, youle not get any better than one dog in a80 acre feild trying to pick a brown scut up on winter wheat great sport it was , sorted the dogs out , back then,
  7. not my shout i keep both dogs and bitches , he wants a bitch ,lovely pup all the same good strong feet 30 years ago a man said to me sonnie if they havent got good pirreli tyres meaning feet theyll not make a good hare dog or running dog thatll last you years,as they break up on hard dry arable or rough land that PUP HAS STRONG BONE AND GOOD FEET FOR SURE if the pace is there it will be a handy pup
  8. good one have had simliar things happen over the years and got them back , sharpish ,get her trained up abit better or leash walked when on heat ,lost a hunting trail years ago beacause bitch came on heat same day a fecher, good feeling when there found quick and you get them back a hundred percent
  9. if land was that good in ireland they wouldnt travel over the water, to get a good day and chance getting nabbed , by law or whatever ,and as for google earth doesnt mean there lots of hares on it i was at the last waterloo and an irish man asked if i could supply live hares 40 euros for there coursing land as they were scares ,i grew up on hare land acre a hundred acre , feilds ,and plenty good hares cant see ireland been as fertile as some big counties of east coast of scotland and england ,maybe im wrong ,and as for dogs cant see what ireland has that the uk hasnt ,brenna
  10. in the lower parts there got young but in the high parts still snow in parts and no young so keep on till end of march ,then leave it for another season ,had several hundred this year , so time to give them a break, its not the numbers its the qaulity of sport and testing your dogs ferrets etc that counts ,and how the game is approached ,

  18. with the amount of rain weve had alot of sets are washed out in some areas , i like the higher country or beach comeing ,when we have had a wet spell, rabbits like most animals, move when flooded , to higher ground or live in the cover ,hopefully theyll dry out over spring and summer ,and breed plenty
  19. fine looking pups and adults being down redcar cocker whitby brid filey saltburn several times in last few years not bad places for walk out,
  20. after having a few softmouthed dogs and seeing a good few , ones in the training and the other is in the breeding ,the best advice i would give anybody , is make sure parents are not crocodiled jawed and you only hunt one dog one man situation , till there in there second season ,ive had dogs fetch raw eggs , beat labs spaniels in dummy contests ,takes alot of dedicaition ,breeding and entering ,something that maybe be lost in most people nowadays ,saw dogs knack roe fox , fetch hare rabbit alive , 95 percent of the time ,had dogs you could let hare go after caught ,saw dogs catch several rabb
  21. , all the eejits under the sun getting into it , not proper country men ,and no respect ,we hunted local plenty hares , new the farmers what ones didnt mind what ones did, what estates were full time keeperd what was not ,early eighties [BANNED TEXT] through to late ninties not much hassle ,and if you did you just says im after afew rabbits end of ,to be agood hunter poacher you have to no the lie of the land and a little respect at times ,takes years of expierence , the minute mobile phones got popular lurcher books etc educating the public, magazines, people traveling alot more to hunt unchar
  22. saw a few beddie crosses and the first crosses were very terrier like and deafed you out and hunted pretty far away if not continusly checked , through expierence no more than a qaurter terrier, see the parents work if you can would be my way of picking a pup ,if possible ,they have great noses but very hound and terrier like and hard mouthed , but evey body has diffrent standards for rabbiting
