-
only reason youle get high prices is some earn easy money and not willing to put the time into training dogs bringing them on ,a skill in its self and worth every penny

crufts means nothing samuria i would want to see them do something, not just rossetes for show , 350 pretty steep for a dog that is bred to show and mayb be a good rabbiter , when i bought my lurchers saw parents work or saw them course , long befor i bought one ,harder nowadays but when i got my coursing dogs had seen father win coursing comp , or hunting feild trails , so had a good chance for a decent worker, so much shite and crap about nowadays thyell tell you anything to get your money ,

ye same to you fuji , i got caught up with the collie sting in the eighties they were not bad rabbit dogs but when your surrounded with hares and big old open land they were found short , but by that time we had let all our old norfolk type get old had to start from scratch again ,saluki type and took years to get the dogs i have now its not been a party but lucky now to reap the rewards , all the best

i know that phil , just never a lover of anything two colliesh or to terrierish just an opion , but not to say when you breed the fast dogs to the collie cur you dont get some good allrounders , saw p douglase maggie cute but limited he never owned another , if i had a house up on the hills i rabbit maybe have one as there hardy but so is some of the stronger running dogs ive had very eightiesh the old collie looking things nothing wrong with that just time moves on

Age To Enter A Pup On The Lamp To Rabbits
fluff replied to springfield's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
i take mines out at four months with mother let them see whats going on under control, then back to fetching some training then back out again then work it up then by nine months usaly following summer they get three qaurter bolted rabbits then after that , there out weekly learning there trade until ,they start on bigger game thats how we used to it , educaition all the time under a controled fashion with only dogs who were mother or a hundred per cent with pups and good fetchers so pup never learned bad habits , mu youngest and mother retreive together still , and rabbits still alive -
Age To Enter A Pup On The Lamp To Rabbits
fluff replied to springfield's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
best way to start any pup ferreting teaches him to be about you and you mean sport then as he develops say 11 12 monrths slip him on a stubble hare then work from there , ferreting teaches a dog a lot more than slipping a dog of aleash on a half dazzled rabbit , any day , -
ps had the half type collie beardie type good dogs but limited , saw m c glenns danny very good dog , saw several coolie type lurchers just lacked gears for flat out running on big land were i stay , i used to mouch about ,but for decent open land the old heavy saturated collie blodd was lacking mate, i agree what you are saying about them being handy , but handy doesnt cacth that beast hitting forty or that hare 100 yards away , just the way it is horses for course as they say fuji ,

ive traveld all over with dogs hunted in feild trails been all over u s a saw all sorts of running dogs ,my passions coursing rabbiting , and ;was lamping deer coursing them , not realy into mouching , i do a bit but its mostly running and thats why i have running dogs, not collies or near enough collies, the collie crosses i have are good dogs or what i had , but no were in the league for coursing and running stubbles with jeep mate poaching very open land winter wheat etc , they take a bit of stopping , i dont ratch about, to much forbbiden game in day lite , ive never led a sheltrd life

thats a nice little dog kieran

had some [BANNED TEXT] laughs with long nets as kids and teenagers thirty years ago, there was not much about to learn of, was all trail and error , and ghost stories , our first earlie goes was old seatrout nets just hung them of branches fences chase whatever was there with lamp , did catch as the nets were pre hung but some tangles at times ,hares to , same idea just big gate nets realy ,
-
qaurters enough for any dog ,my best collie lurcher only had roughly a qaurt ,she stopped the lot , no problem , when i had the sort of half to half greyhound collie grew type some were fast but lacked the bigger stride on acre wheat feilds especaily if it was long slips, but still good dogs , but limited at times ,
-
ye i meant health wise , sevens alrite , had 2 one nite missd 35 , three badgers feched that up lol 25 years ago , early ninties was a netters or lampers dream in borders of scotland guys, had forty eight out one feild with dogs , and there was another twenty feilds to go ,three men with long nets would had filled a pick up for sure , but 50 p a rabbit crippld me to kill them at times ,had agood year this year with long nets not massive but consistent double figures and you can slip in and out no hassle
-
type of land i run they ,wouldnt suit me , be alrite for up hills, on the grassy land , but not down on the short winter wheat land ,plus i run my dogs singly mostly , to much collie wouldnt do for me ,or i would have one
-
all depends the lines you get them from ,and what are parents like, bred them for twenty two years roughly , very good allround dogs ,it helps if you are very good with understanding dogs and training them , probaly the best mixture ive saw for hare roe rabbits pheasants ,all depends the acsses to game you have and the knowledge to bring the best out in any dog that helps a lot,
-
wouldnt have strait collie cant beat a bit good saluki blood in him, had some good collie crosses ,but hard to keep the line going
-
