  1. thats the trouble to many on the list and staying on there ....................get out and do it......... if i was going to kick someones ass i wouldnt be on here ,........name location .........job.done........... No being clever - the word is arse.
  2. I like an interactive dog. Can she dance? Had my dog looking for her when I played the vid.
  3. Evidently a myth about ferals carrying loads of diseases. Anyway I've eaten ferals when I was younger, and didn't catch anything. Wouldn't fancy them now mind.
  4. Yep, my pup (in avatar) still yowls a lot when he's excited. They're just young and will get over it as they mature.
  5. Work on basic recall in an enclosed space. Don't bo**ock the dog when it eventually comes back in. My staffie x whippet is 8, and unsafe to let off the lead. She was a rescue and was ok at first (1 year old). Now if she gets a scent or sees a rabbit she's off - could be for an hour. Over main roads, the lot. Lovely dog, but a house-pet rather than a hunter. If I owned a big island with no livestock and plenty of game I'd feel ok about letting her off-lead regularly....................... My deerhound X pup is a delight in comparison.
  6. That's a bit harsh - calling your missus an old bitch!
  7. I make sure my dogs jabs are up to date.
  8. cryptospirosis think thats what its called one knacker stay inside the dog it is a genetic fault , that can and will be passed on if you breed it can be carried by both male and female geneticly , sometimes they drop . , it has been known to couse cancer . some vets say total castration ,, no need if the internal nut is removed it lowers the chances of cancer as tesicles are ment to be outside the body ,and kept cool This^.
  9. Had the young dog out this morning for his usual walk at daybreak. I thought there may be a chance of a rabbit in one of the fields I take him too. There's usually 3 or 4 sat next to the hedge which I don't encourage him to run at, because they are long gone by the time he reaches them, There's a riverbank on one side of the field though, and that can sometimes have a sitter which will run across the open field and give him a chance. So we stopped at the edge of the field and while I'm changing his lead into a slip he spots a rabbit by the hedge 50/60 yards away - off he shoots like a rock
  10. I would knock off the long walk and the jumping. If your pup gets damaged because of over-exercise he may end up with a permanent injury. Lurchers have fitness bred into them. You will need to condition your dog later on, but not at the moment. What makeup is he?
  11. I think do a proper examination yourself then report back. Are you certain nothing is in the pads or between the toes? Check each joint (inc toes) up the the shoulder gently going through joint range of motion. also press gently around each joint to see if there is any old injury (adhesions or scar tissue ) which might be causing the dog pain. She should be fine at six (unless she did a lot of jumping too young)...................
  12. Might be worth saying where the groupon deals are available?
  13. My two get a tin of tuna in sunflower oil between them each morning, and a quick brush. One is smooth, the other rough-coated on top. Both coats shine. Oil and brushing is the key to a shiny coat .
  14. Top footballer gets injured. After op he gets what? Physio and rehab. Athletic dog gets injured............ Has your dog had any physio or rehab? Any stiffness or lameness may be the result of adhesions after the injury - easily sorted with cross-frictions - you can do it yourself. Do a search on here - come back to me if you need any help.
  15. most things we do are illegal but we still do them regardless
  16. Mix of scenthound and sighthound. Handy second dog.
  17. Read this one yesterday and didn't have time to post. Here goes: Diet - raw sound s good as suggested on here. Exercise - stop the bikework. Short 30-min on-lead walks are fine for the time being. Mooching and playing off-lead are good too. Stop the jumping. You have a young dog which has soft bones and growth plates which are still allowing your dog to grow. Too much exercise this young can damage your dog permanently. Your pup is young, daft and very willing, so out of the partnership you have to take the responsibility to ration the exercise. Others, probably with a lot more
  18. At your age you want someone who can advise you about what dog will suit you and your situation. Personally I would say a deerhound X will be too powerful for you for the next 3 or 4 years.
  19. I just looked at your location. To run or to eat???
