  1. Never cleaned my TX, part from using some of those little felt plugs now and again. It shoots fine.
  2. Cheers mate, ill have a search and see if I can fettle with it abit. How/what did you polish it with? Autosol I think it was called - slightly abrasive metal polish.
  3. I do like a hairy dog! I tried for ages to get a phone without a camera. I have the cheapest Nokia going - still has a stupid camera though. They're sh*t. Here's a proper camera......
  4. I have a TX but not the carbine. When I tuned mine I polished the inside of the compression tube. It all makes a difference. The trigger can be massively improved with a self-tune too. Google tuning a TX - there's a few instruction pages out there. My TX is very smooth and its a .177.
  5. That's not really great control though, is it?
  6. Re-reading, it sounds like the pup may have been punished for coming in when it was younger. I've done this before when a dog finally decided to come in, and its a big mistake, because the dog knows that when it eventually comes back it will get bollocked or worse. Some good advice here. Patience and a long rope and treats are the way forward. The no-eye contact is good as well. The "let him know who's boss" advice is pish, and if a dog is already cowed in certain situations will just make the dog worse (imo ). Let us know how you get on, and good luck.
  7. He's just a pup, and different mixes take different times to mature. What's the mix?
  8. We haven't been yet, but I think Taz will be three (at least) before we start.
  9. its the norm in most dogs ,bitches always seem to be further advanced than the dogs,am the same just now with the 2 fawn pups bitch is a mile ahead the now, just to add the sire to these pups was pts few weeks ago rip boab Thanks for that. Sometimes I look at the bugger and think he's never going to mature .
  10. Great thread and pics! Mine is two and a half end of March and still daft, but quietening down slowly. Comes in nicely to the whistle now though, and this year has taken no notice of the new-born lambs and ewes. Does anyone think that the dogs mature that little bit later than the bitches?
  11. Wouldn't risk it myself. It's not just other dogs, it's what they leave behind.
  12. As above - why do people feel the need to use anything else????
  13. Gotta love daft Friday night threads............ .
  14. Fair point - your previous post is pish though .
  15. Good looking pup - it's great bringing them on!
  16. Inspirational - patience and the will to train properly pays off in the end. One of the best threads on here for a while - thanks for posting.
  17. Baw has given you good advice about getting an in. If you don't shoot or ferret you need to find another way in. Very few farmers are going to give you permission to bush on their land if they don't know you or your dog.
  18. Just to add that the advice on this forum is generally excellent. If you need to know anything in a hurry, just ask.
  19. Sounds like you have some work in front of you! You'll have to watch for deer if you're on arable land. Your dog will instinctively chase deer if it sees them. You can do what you like with rabbits. Mine like the occasional one raw and in it's jacket. Read up on raw feeding and the barf diet. There is a drawback to feeding raw rabbit to dogs in that some have tapeworms, so if unsure cook them first. Don't give them all to the dog either .
  20. Hi James, and welcome. What is the pup - do you know? I ask because different crosses take different lengths of time to mature. My pup is a deerhound X - he's nearly two and a half, and nowhere near mature. Other mixes mature at twelve months. Books were my first call for hunting instruction, together with going out with a local ferreter now and again. You'll find that people will be naturally reluctant to offer to take you out, manly due to the hunting ban and anti's. Jackie Drakeford is very readable, and Skycat on here has written a couple of books. Read all you can and get a feel
  21. As Skycat said - then vet if no better.
  22. Here you go.... http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index.php?s=1fb6cc2ff49c44b5f3005faf7a5397ce&app=googlecse#gsc.tab=0&gsc.q=retrieving Or type retrieve in the search box. There's plenty of info, but as has already been said, let the pup be a pup for a while yet.
