  1. Think Mr Lloyd sums it all up in his new book
  2. On a seriouse note he could drop dead at any time - he has a peice of disaligned carlidge under his vertabre in neck - cannot be surgically fixed and if/when it pops out completey hes gunna be paralysed on all 4 legs. Vet said "dont let him do this- dont let him do that- ra di ra" - My view - Balls to that let him do as he wishes even if it risks popping sooner he may die young but he'll die happy Rather a short happy life than a long miserbale one AT the mo though hes stable and the pains wore off which vet is very suprised about hes off all meds and doing nice *touch wood* - Hes on
  3. What do your dogs sleep on?
  4. I take your point Waldorf but if we use terriers as an example, genuine lines have been created worker to worker but these lines were started somewhere.....from dogs of possibly mixed backgrounds (an I'm not sayin yours is Cred ) right down the lines, long before people kept records. If it works and works well, then try to replicate, keep lines close with only the odd outcross. Yes it would be nice to know exactley how every lurcher is bred but its working ability that counts.
  5. Genuine question Royston, have you seen many cattle dog crosses (apart from the obvious one ), are there many about still??
  6. A cracking lookin bitch Stevie,
  7. BullX Though admire any cross thats good at it's vocation in the field........ Summat about a 'weirdo' though, a cross/type you just wouldn't expect to turn out but can do the job, few years back a mate had a dalmation cross! That dog was a cracker, hard as nails too, wouldn't take the risk of tryin to replicate it though......worker to worker all the way!!
  8. Still swolen Tim, been a feckin nightmare..... so how was the bull runnin, you nutter!!?? Just for the record, Tim has just been over to Pamploma (Spain) to run with the bulls......did ya wear your brown underwear.....loon!!??

All lookin good Simo.....great pics, attitude for kids an future dog.....
  10. Thats the ticket SS.......tried belt pouches a few years back an never rated 'em, always felt like me keck's were gonna come off!!! BUT if your collars are anythin to go by....i'm in the market....two 12v 20Ah !!!!
  11. Nice lookin dog Poacher. TimmyK, also has a good straight 3/4, i'll ask him to put some pics up.
  12. My Grandfather was a ships Bosun, liked the name an as a kid I named my EBT Bosun (loved that dog!), grown up, I worked the rescue boat on the Mersey became a Bosun too, 11...thats our house number as kids.
  13. Thanks all.....yer Shot, it from Strong Stuff, feckin indestructible !! Great investment. Got the cammo one, these should be just the ticket for anyone with white dogs (which I like)!!!
  14. Seen a reverse 3/4 a few weeks back at the North Wales show (St Aseph), a crackin looker, the dog just looked like a pure bred an was for sale (wonder why), any Copper worth his salt would be right 'on' to a dog like that if stopped, especially if it bore the 'mark's' of its trade. I prefer a few more gears, most halfs should suffice.....
  15. As Simo said Matty, thats a lot of dough for shite boots, i have seen these and other types whilst at shows over the years and mates have bought them, to be honest, I've never been impressed, all have complained that they are uncomfortable on the calfs on a long treck. Also the leather, IMO is not up to the job, 'giving' far to much, to soon, the shape of them boots for the time you have had them speaks volumes, yes boots should 'give' but after that ammout of time should never end up 'sloppy'. I'm just of the opinion that its about what a company actually makes, Le Chameau, are a wellie manu
  16. Used Gators an rate them (decent quality though) for the terrier job, crashing through wet cover etc, better than wellies in that you get the ankle support and sole toughness from your boot an yer kecks don't get wet an covered in shite. Never use them for lampin though, always sweat me nuts off!
  17. They don't look half bad, though I'd like to handle them to really see what they are made of. I've had a good few pairs of Brasher's, one pair bought new and the others from my Bro who does a fair bit of fell walking (he likes to look the part an buys new boots as soon as the last get scratched.....fecking quilt!!). They are designed for comfort an none breaking in, bulit over a training shoe 'last', they do what they claim but in the field, in winter, they have really let me down, side rubber has split and on two pair the sole has all but dropped off, plus they have all leaked like a tap, wi
  18. I buy the damn thing (every so often) then wish I hadn't!! Most of the lurcher & terrier stuff just kills me, then they done my head in with the Bull stuff a few years back, had to advertise as 'strong dog' etc!! I really enjoyed it as the Shooting News, still have plenty of old copies which are still a good read. Real dog men talkin real dogs. I did hear that Plummer got his hooks into it many moons ago, not sure how true that was but it certainly seemed to be a vehicle for his views an fables for a few years , seems to be about the time it went down hill!! It's out tomorrow ain't it
  19. Seen this plenty of times with young bull X's, though mostley with 1/2's an 5/8ths, they want 'the fight' an when a fox plays dead they just lose interest, it's pure inexperience. The best fox dog I have owned was the same to start, and at a dig he did the drop an re-catch thing three times , with me getting some terrible stick off the lads about bull x's ! As Macker said, a bite (or two) off a good fox will stop the problem i'm sure.
  20. Thank's all, she's really a 'bitsa', Sire is deerhound/grey X collie/grey, Dam is collie/grey/whippet X whippet/grey. Though I've run most crosses in my time I settled on BullX's about 15 years ago an kept nothing else since. Bella came courtesy of my girlfriend who was unable to leave this piss soaked little wretch at a show. Bella is a real live wire, taking everything in her stride, has a fantastic apptitude for retreiving and i'm confident she will make a really useful dog in the field.
  21. This is Bella, 15 weeks, doin ok.
  22. With all honesty Simo, two, my old two bull 1/2x's. Was at the time quite sick of rearing 'well bred' lurcher to lurcher crosses only to find them lacking, usually on the big stuff, with these it was a case of right lines, right stuff, job done!! Still an always will, admire any cross thats bred to do an does well, any specific or all round job but at the time (15 years ago) these dogs were a revalation........pure 'Cuprinol'.......did exactley what it said on the tin!!
  23. Yer Poach, always my best reads are in the Karzie, my own little sanctuary!
