The Blade Tech are ok, just keep it as a key ring an it's always to hand, had mine about 5 years, still doin both my field an kitchen knives. Yes, there are better sharpeners but these are versitile and easy. For best results, hold it down firm on a flat surface and draw the blade down, don't put to much pressure on. Cheers

On the kit question (moving on from Chalk's 'syrup' for a min), I own a shovel I was given when I was about 18 (i'm now 40) and was very keen with terrier work. I'd moved up a few notches, had a couple of well bred animals doin the job and was digging like a fiend. Always on the lookout for a good 'Banjo' I was given a useful looking number off a mates dad. It done well too, always in the motor, used most weeks, wern't as big or as heavy as the Bulldogs but done well in tight or shallow spots. Dug a hell of a lot of ferrets with it too......... Twas a tad damp! Never seen rain at a show like it. Put a hell of a lot off i'll bet, though, dispite this there where some crackin dogs there. I was there giving the lads from the Merseyside Club a lift, jumping on the mic to do a bit of ring announcing (everyone else seemed a bit shy ). Strongstuff's gear went well , Aaron had brought his usual bag (or Disco) full of goodies and was prepairing for a very wet day!! Reminded me of when I was a kid on a school trip to Chester Zoo (Which initself was like the tv play 'Our Day Out', anyone remember that?)..... Anyway's, we went when there was real heavy snow on the ground......BIG mistake lettin 60 school kids from Anfield Comp loose !!! Every poor fecker (mostley critters) got a 'broadside' of snow balls (Gophers especially..........great fun!), then yours truley and his mates wander's over to the Tigers enclosure.

Just my opinion but i've never understood the use of short shovels, for me, your doin the same job as with a ordinary size shovel but with the shorter one, only making it a damn site more uncomfortable and difficult on poor ground. Soil is soil wherever you my find it! When all said and done it's the job your doing (digging) irrespective of the size of the animal your digging to. Now a smaller head on a shovel does IMO make a difference with ferrets, you are not looking to make as bigger impact on the ground as with a terrier. I would always go for a 'solid' heavy cast type.......and yes, Bul

hares are mostly nocternal feeders ..fact round me where i hunt and i have caught the odd hare the hares stay in the rougher fields small woods and go out into the open fields a night to feed where there is no cover ,,,YES you do get them out in the open but when you go out with the lamp they are all over the open feilds where the grass is shorter ....i go up the dales quite a bit and you see the odd daytime hare ...you go at night and you see plenty ...WHY because they are night feeders and thats when they come out into the open ... iam talking the smaller feilds ..i can go round the a1

Paul, at her age don't worry..... The first bull x I owned did exactley the same thing with his first catch, end of night, I was gutted!! Next night out, I stopped him eating it but retrieve...not a chance! All changed with age, thank god. Ended up a very good catch and retrieve dog. Seen it a few times since with other young 'un's i've owned. Your running a very young pup with a very young pup mentality, no harm in that but even though the catches seem like she's grown up, her all round mentality just ain't. I'd keep everything to a minimum, basic training still..... as Molly says in a few
