Two at present and thats what i've always regarded as my ideal, with work an such any more would just not get out enough to do them justice, PLUS if an when I do get time on my hands, I can then really get the most out of the dogs I run. Nothing beats a real 'good week' out as much as you possibly can, testing you and your dogs metal. Special times!!!

Yer Snoop, The Man from Atlantis was 'Patrick Duffey', later in 'Dallas', who died an came back in the shower, remember?........this sounds like it should be on another thred

Maybe there is summat in it, though for the life of me I dunno what? Think it's them type of ghost stories that were impregnated into your mind as a kid, always makin you 'over think'. True story.....Three lads I work with, havin a jolly round Southport, few shops, lots of pubs type of day...... Walkin down Lord Street, bloke marches straight into Rob (18st nutter!), bloke hits deck, boys look down it's that Dereck Acorah off Most Haunted, Rob leans over to pick him up an says.. "Didn't see that one comin, did ya?"!!!!! Sums it all up for me!!!

At about 12-13 used to hang around in the local cemetry, next to the local girls school, on occasion we'd get up an piss about on the flat school roof. One night gets up playin hide an seek or summat, crouches low an spies loads of little shafts of light comin up from the roof, holes drilled! Has a look, to find perfect spy holes over the changing rooms of the swimming pool, which has a 'interestin' ladies only swimming lessons on night school. First night up, mate takin his first perv shouts "minge! just what I've always wanted", we pissed ourselves. Most of our mates over the next few weeks

I like to see a dog leave it's bowl 'spinning' after a meal, for all the above reasons, hate to see fussy an picky eaters. As pups my dogs are taught to eat all in front, if they lift their head from the bowl I have an older dog ready to 'pounce', three times with not a lot to eat usually does the trick. Suffice to say, my retired dogs have always ended up livin a fireside life with me Mam. She basically 'Free' feeds, dogs with food in their bowls all day, it always suprises me that the dogs brought up my way have settled in to her's very quickly without putting on weight, turning very picky

Anyone else used to ride on the back of double-decker buses? Wait till they stopped, hands on the engine vents an a foot on the hood bar at the bottom an off we go.... Got some great looks off the people inside an out , till they'd moan to the driver, he'd stop, jump off an away, hide till the next came along, travelled all over the city on that game.... feckin NUTS!!! Bein a city boy, owning a lurcher an gettin out to the fields was deffo a savin grace, time spent the right way, though them Altcar keepers might think different !! Waded the river Alt a 'few' times with 'ol Stewart shout

Len was a true charicter, few like him now. For all the years I seen Len at shows i never bought nowt off him as I had my own suppliers BUT lads could always get things the needed off him, travelling the country all summer for years he 'provided'. It was always business. Suffice to say, when asked for a guaranteed fox dog (pre Bull) a local lad, bought Red a big 'rangey' dog with a good dash of Saluki in it. Iron hard, red never quit on all quarry an his offspring were good also, some even better. With 'Ginger' it was all there for the right price. Good luck to him.

The depth the bulb's pins sitting in the socket matters also and could need adjusting, its gotta be like the little bears porridge.... just right, not to far in an not to far out, just a matter of trial an error, pick a night when you aint got the dogs on a big field and adjust BUT don't touch them bulbs with your bare fingers. I always cut (burn) the clasps off my Lightforce filter then wrap insulation tape around the inside (once). This for me gets rid of the clatter an twang of gettin the filter on an off, far too noisey and a lot quicker too. On the subject, I used to only use Cluelights

Havin just bought a cracker at the Welsh (Deerhunter 'summat'). For lamping go second hand!! Try for wind + waterproof (to an extent) an comfortable an roomy but its nuts paying fancy prices for fancy coats an jackets to have 'em torn, ripped an generally caked in shit in a seasons lamping. Seein the youngsters out for a shine round these parts is like a feckin fashon show! Deerhunter this an Musto that....the wire sorts it out no probs!! My new one will be just for general wear till it's lookin shabby (a few years I hope) then it get's field tested properley. After owning Barbours since I

Never had any actual contact with this breed buts its one thats had me facinated. After reading up on 'em an watchin a few bits on my pc I recon these dogs could be well worth consideration for lurcher breeding. They have a hell of a prey drive, when they hit they hit hard, always wired with sound conformation. GSD crosses are making an apperance again, Heart of Wales has bred a very good litter, he's got good GSD's. These things come in lighter boned than GSD's which should help with lurcher breeding, though findin the right stuff could be difficult and costley.

the two best lurchers at the welsh(IMO)
Bosun11 replied to martin's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Thats about right Martin, best lookin 'dogs' but for me, NOT the best lookin 'LURCHERS' Just my opinion, but I like a lurcher to look like a lurcher, a crossbred of any type..... for me half the enjoyment of shows is standing outside the ring guessin whats in its make up (then wonderin how it performes?) Maybe it's obvious, maybe not but I prefer a dog that doesnt look like any pure bred, IMO they do. Do agree with your last point though, the Welsh is a real working dog show, for real working people! -
Sorry Ditch, can't answer your question as i'm a complete tecnophobe, just wanted to say what a great blog, ain't seen it before......the links on it are great.....now saved to favorites!!! Cheers!

Though I'll admit I don't know much about horses, not far from where I work (Southport) are fields full of black and white horses that are bred and sold to these folk at the different fairs around the country. I am sure it's the same in many parts and would guess that you try and buy off breeders of this type rather than buy where status and bravado inflates price.

95.....99 Merseyside......so.....buy a deisel an bang in the 'Cherry'..... !!!

Bull blood in a whippet is one thing an I'm sure some throw heavy but that looks like it's been blown up with a foot pump (reminds me of the start of the Pink Panther cartoon, where he pulls the rip chord an inflates!! ) If that is the case, why don't we see bullX's exibiting similar traits? Genetics gone mad me thinks!!

About 12 years ago I was asked by a old boy I knew, if I could take him to North Wales to pick up two ferrets he'd ordered(as he doesn't drive), off a chap who is well into them over there. We met near Flint (half way for each) the chap had a trailer on the back of his car stuffed with different sized kits. The old boy got his then the bloke asked if he'd be interested in a wild polley kit. Not a chance but I was ! Told us that a wild female had been brought in injured off a road an had a litter, he then had the female to Liverpool Uni to get her Gene tested an she was the real McCoy (I
