Havin just bought a cracker at the Welsh (Deerhunter 'summat'). For lamping go second hand!! Try for wind + waterproof (to an extent) an comfortable an roomy but its nuts paying fancy prices for fancy coats an jackets to have 'em torn, ripped an generally caked in shit in a seasons lamping. Seein the youngsters out for a shine round these parts is like a feckin fashon show! Deerhunter this an Musto that....the wire sorts it out no probs!! My new one will be just for general wear till it's lookin shabby (a few years I hope) then it get's field tested properley. After owning Barbours since I

Never had any actual contact with this breed buts its one thats had me facinated. After reading up on 'em an watchin a few bits on my pc I recon these dogs could be well worth consideration for lurcher breeding. They have a hell of a prey drive, when they hit they hit hard, always wired with sound conformation. GSD crosses are making an apperance again, Heart of Wales has bred a very good litter, he's got good GSD's. These things come in lighter boned than GSD's which should help with lurcher breeding, though findin the right stuff could be difficult and costley.

the two best lurchers at the welsh(IMO)
Bosun11 replied to martin's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Thats about right Martin, best lookin 'dogs' but for me, NOT the best lookin 'LURCHERS' Just my opinion, but I like a lurcher to look like a lurcher, a crossbred of any type..... for me half the enjoyment of shows is standing outside the ring guessin whats in its make up (then wonderin how it performes?) Maybe it's obvious, maybe not but I prefer a dog that doesnt look like any pure bred, IMO they do. Do agree with your last point though, the Welsh is a real working dog show, for real working people! -
Sorry Ditch, can't answer your question as i'm a complete tecnophobe, just wanted to say what a great blog, ain't seen it before......the links on it are great.....now saved to favorites!!! Cheers!

Though I'll admit I don't know much about horses, not far from where I work (Southport) are fields full of black and white horses that are bred and sold to these folk at the different fairs around the country. I am sure it's the same in many parts and would guess that you try and buy off breeders of this type rather than buy where status and bravado inflates price.

95.....99 Merseyside......so.....buy a deisel an bang in the 'Cherry'..... !!!

Bull blood in a whippet is one thing an I'm sure some throw heavy but that looks like it's been blown up with a foot pump (reminds me of the start of the Pink Panther cartoon, where he pulls the rip chord an inflates!! ) If that is the case, why don't we see bullX's exibiting similar traits? Genetics gone mad me thinks!!

About 12 years ago I was asked by a old boy I knew, if I could take him to North Wales to pick up two ferrets he'd ordered(as he doesn't drive), off a chap who is well into them over there. We met near Flint (half way for each) the chap had a trailer on the back of his car stuffed with different sized kits. The old boy got his then the bloke asked if he'd be interested in a wild polley kit. Not a chance but I was ! Told us that a wild female had been brought in injured off a road an had a litter, he then had the female to Liverpool Uni to get her Gene tested an she was the real McCoy (I

5/8 is a 3/4 X 1/2......suppose it's what you want it for, a good 5/8 should be faster than a 1/2 but IMO its down to what lines you use. As there is quite a bit of variation in pure bull lines. My halfs, from Pie lines have always thrown tall and racy, so they suit me fine.

welsh game fair

I was in that class with mine (was the one that ran in late with the black bullX....!). The judge, John Bromley didn't do much handling of any bullx's, said he'd bin bit the other week by a pure bred in his kennels an that had put him off a bit!!....... Met John a few times over the past 20 years, really nice fella, knows his dogs (he should, he's a top breeder 'n trainer) but judging at an event such as the Welsh what was he expecting?....In recent years there has been a big influx of Bullx's at most shows. -
As with most crosses i've seen good an bad, got to be from the right stuff. One thing does make me wonder though.... even from good lines the size an structure of this cross seems to vary quite a bit? some first crosses I've have seen leveled off at around 22" light boned too, yet others have come in at 27" an very strong, does anyone know if different working Wheaton lines have a great deal of size diffrerence??

Good post this, as there seems to be a lot of interest in pure whippets through EDRD over the past few months with a name or two that I would't associate with the breed owning them and I am wondering why......? Not that I know much about 'em....though age 8 my first dog was a whippet an was a cracker but our local track closed a year or two later an info has been scarce around these parts for the past 23 years as i aint seen a pure bred work since.

Clive Rees has recently reprisented Ken Woodacre our local 'dog whisperer', you may have seen it in the Countrymans or EDRD. Ken told me last week that Clive Rees done a fantastic job for him, after he had first used an 'expert' over from South Africa' who ended up putting Ken 20k out of pocket!! Clive took the case and Ken was acquited, also Rees will always go for Legal Aid. Know a couple of lads who have used him for digging offences too, all spoke very highly of him. Have a look at the articles L.B. i'm sure he's the man for the job.
