O Good to have a civilised exchange despite coming from different sides of the sectarianism fence. I remember one of my kids brought home a book from school about Irish history. I learned that the Irish would sit about all day peeling tatties with a specially grown long thumbnail . It was their diet almost 100%.They existed on an acre or two and when they weren't peeling tatties, they were producing children by the the teens. Just Google' Plantation of Ulster' mate . And 'The Highland Clearances.' Have a look at 'The Duke of Sutherland' as well. They're all part of Irish/ Scottish history and subsequent bitter sectarianism.

Stiff maintains Ulster was built by Scots protestants. Going back a bit..".The Plantation of Ulster " which was the the process of transplanting mostly lowland protestant Scots and some English into confiscated Irish land after the 9 year war, was different from the 'Highland Clearances' , where tenant Scots were evicted en masse to make way for sheep. It's a very sore subject for the Scots. As is the plantation of Ulster for Irish catholics. The Scots protestants who colonised Ulster were not kicked out of Scotland. They were given grants and occupied land confiscated from the Irish. This was a deliberate attempt to protestantise Catholic Ireland. The people kicked out of the Scottish Highlands were tenant crofters. The landlords discovered that sheep were more profitable than renting out crofts. There were mass evictions and Scots emigrated all over the world.

There were no charges against the cop. I agree with that. The lad was hyped up and, in an airport ,he could have dealing with anything. It used to be said that the presence of female officers could calm a situation down. And that is true. But in this case. I think if I were a cop I'd want a man to back me up. Not a wee girl.

The judge should fit the punishment to the crime. Black, brown or white. It's a no brainer imo. Eight to ten minimum. Personally I don't think there would be any disturbances after the sentence. If there is, then crush it. They can do it when they want to.

The 12th of July commemorates the Battle of the Boyne when the Dutch protestant King defeated the catholic King James. Religious bigotry is very important to both Irish and Scottish culture. No fires, but I did nearly drop a tree on a gamekeeper. He used to pride himself on his bushcraft and sneak up on us. To humour him we all used to praise his ability to conceal himself. Even though we usually knew he was there because wood pigeons were exploding into the air as he approached us. One day he came roaring out of the undergrowth and a falling tree only just missed him. When I worked in forestry we would come across dozens of nests hanging from trees. I used to volunteer to be the one to burn them out. The other lads thought I was mad but I was never stung. A stick with an ignited paraffin soaked rag would get rid of a nest quickly. A nest burns like paper. Many of the lads were badly stung but I got off scot free because I was surrounded by smoke, flame and the reek of paraffin. Simples. Wasps numbers seem to have recovered this year.
