I support a couple of charities monthly and I give as the mood takes me. Sometimes beggars "hit the spot" and I give them a few quid, sometimes I don't. My Mrs nearly always gives, which in places like Glasgow is an expensive day out. Giving is not just one way. It's a two way thing. The giver gets a bang out of being nice. Gallows humour is acceptable amongst consenting adults. Although personally I cannnot handle jokes about gas chambers or starving children. Although I know some jews find them hilarious. But as you say I can choose not to laugh. I don't think hissing at jews is acceptable or chanting about Munich or Hilsborough. The audience of such chants are not willing participants and like it or not the game now includes a much wider audience than working class men and boys.

As for some random woman with time on her hands ranting on the internet about burning people, I couldn't care less. I wouldn't imprison her. She's just a mouth like all the others on the Internet. So if you were at a funeral of a loved one and a group of random people totally unconnected with the deceased were chanting insults at the funeral cortege and clapping and laughing when the loved one is being lowered into the earth. That's OK?

That's a fair point I reluctantly concede. But there is a difference that some of us can detect. And note I'm not calling for custodial sentence or a criminal record. Just brutal retribution for needlessly and gratuitously causing people great emotional hurt.

Just though of a couple more adventures we had. We were sitting in a taverna drinking g cold Amstel when we noticed a bloke building a brick garden wall. He was like a drunken retarded chimp. He was placing bricks one on top of the other.It would gave fallen down before it was built. So we started again for him and after an hour or so we were going great guns,stripped to the waist like young fellas. The bloke was delighted and supplying us with Amstel. So finally our stint at Bleak House came to an end. We called into the headmaster's office and given a speech. He said he hoped we had benefited from our stay and learned the error of our ways. So we got to the North of England's nirvana on Sunday night and hit the town. We played the one armed bandits and dined on endless candy floss, toffee apples and greasy fish and chips. We slept in locked cubicles in public toilets on the road to Fleetwood and had an undisturbed but cold night.
