Greenman; That paper was largely extrapolated from data input by the BTO. I'm one of the vast army of volunteers who feed the BTO that source data in the first place. I'm not 'crying out for science'. I'm working away, day in, day out, year on year, helping write it

Releasing Captive Bred Birds Into The Wild.
Outlaw Pete replied to fireman's topic in Cage and Aviary Birds
One of those weird ones, when ye think of it, Gnash; 'Racing Pigeons' were bred out of wild Rock Doves. Real ('pure', wild) Rock Doves are now relatively scarce. I wonder what proportion of 'Road Hackers' actually wear racing rings / rubbers? F**k it! I'm on about ringed birds again, look! FFS! -
Don't smoke, or take drugs, mate. Daily, one on one interaction with wild birds is my, legal, high. But, you crash on

PK; I'd imagine the netting I wanted would be the stuff now attached to my 'net'. One of the other guys on here having been able to sort me out with some fishermans keep net material, of all things! But, yeppers, many thanks for the consideration, mate

Fires; I've, very consciously, used the same handle on every 'bird' forum I've joined, mate. I always state my (Profile) interests as being a Ringer. I'm hardly hiding anything. PK and Raymond; I've just told one, in particular, to " Get the f**k out of my face, you slimy f**king c**t! ". Doubtless the very response he was gagging to get. I wouldn't give a f**k, frankly. Only, these idiots seem hell bent on destroying me, in front of the very guys I'd hope to buy my Colour Canaries off of! And there's a clue; It's not as if I'm PMing Sibe breeders, asking for a meet at their home a

Morton; Please just bring something to the table, to prove it wasn't naturally occurring radon gas, or what ever, that wiped the lapwings. In fact; I'd appreciate Anything, beyond some words tapped out on a forum, to demonstrate the accuracy of your, seeming, assumption. Not looking for an argument here. Just some acceptably solid back up. I'm 'sorry' if my attitude sounds 'boring'. Only, I've found empirical Science has made so many monkeys of my own, life long held ideas, I just crave the real shit.

Troglodyte lappys? Company for ye, mate! Seriously though ~ where ever you are; This whole " I see loads of them " thing is just what I mean't, when I mentioned " The Big Picture ". I expect to see a dark skinned person perhaps ..... I dunno. Once a month? Because, I only leave my own patch once a week. And I then only go to a very small, rural town. So, that's my perception of dark people. Rocking horse. However, what if I lived in Birmingham ....? See, anyone in Brum could be forgiven for thinking the entire f**king country is inundated with such people. They may even be fo

No, mate. Frankly.

WTF is it with birds and them?! Someone, on here, recommended I join a couple of the forums where people talk pretty much only about keeping ABCR stuff. I can only imagine that must of been at some point where I'd expressed a growing interest in keeping 'birds'. Probably stating how I wasn't, then, sure of if I'd be allowed natives or not. Well, I since found out that No Way would I. So, I looked around and these Colour Canaries have got me. So, I dug out and found Their fora too. And, f**k me! The Trolls have just sprung out of the wood work! I've had Three of them latche

Curlews are now just about considered extinct, as an inland breeding species, round here. Well; Pretty much everywhere, to be honest. Lapwings? Dunno. Generally said to be on the decline, on the big picture, due to agricultural practices (But, hey! Why accept that, if ye can blame a hook beaked scavenger! F**k science when ye can spew a bit of emotive vitriol) Cuckoo? Few years ago I had three in my view, all at the same instant. Year after, two showed up. Last year it was the one. Doesn't bode well, does it? Especially if people as widely spaced are reporting similar

Dunnock eggs are sky blue, mate Robins tend to nest about knee to waist height. Often as not in a wall or cover against a wall. They're nesting early (now). Their eggs and nest lining look good for those featured. Truth is? I really couldn't imagine what else it might be, now that we have confirmation that it's a wild nest

Jake; Top of the page. To the right. Click ye handle. Box opens. Click Settings and tick it to automatically suss and adjust

Bob's right, mate. Only way to know beyond reasonable doubt would be to see the bird. I'm sure a few of the lads on here could have a good crack at it for ye. But, seeing the hen on them is pretty irrefutable. Edited to add; Given the time of year? If that's a wild nest? My money's on robin

There's some lovely gear in Norway too, JD. Powerful stuff! But, none of it's cheap. Oddly, prices, today, seem to remind me of the old days, when stuff like a Lloyd trap costed a fair whack out of a weekly wage!

Bodygrip Mounts / Stabilizers!
Outlaw Pete replied to EDDIE B's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Aha. Well, I have some commercial, welded rod supports here. But, that doesn't sound like what you're up to either. -
Bodygrip Mounts / Stabilizers!
Outlaw Pete replied to EDDIE B's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Eddie; I've seen all manner of ways used. Personally, I've just made a load of tunnels up and am using a bit of baton nailed to the floor. I don't know the size. But, it's just big enough that the set jaws slot down onto it. Does that make sense? I believe people use four nails in a similar fashion. -
Epic F**king Fail!!! Just took my Dogs for their walk. As is customary, on the way back I let them off their leads so they can mooch about a bit and explore shit. They tend to like going down onto the little, middle field and round the cattle crush. I don't know why. They just like it there. Today was no exception. What was exceptional though was the yellow peril sniffing hard at a pile of brash. Then he pounced! Surprisingly, I was pretty unconcerned that he'd finally caught one of the pheasants round here. I'd really rather he hadn't. But, I wasn't going to break my

Long as they keep them " Under Control " ~ as in, in doors or in a suitable enclosure in their own gardens ~ I really have absolutely no problem what so ever with people keeping cats.

Here. Not exactly dirt cheap though.

Got My New Glasses Today ~ Two Pairs ....!
Outlaw Pete replied to Outlaw Pete's topic in General Talk
Lee; I reckon I damn near spent as much on bloody over the counter glasses. And, truth to tell? They just aren't any good, compared with the real deal. I'd bought up the most powerful pairs in town (No 'Pound Shops' there either!) And I still couldn't, reliably, read a ring. BB; I got my first ever pair of glasses from Spec Savers. That was about a decade back. When I could just hop on my bike and trundle down to them. Must say; Those ones cost me a ton or more. But, the frames lasted me a good ten years. Nice frames, of my choosing, too. I wonder if these new, plastic damn -

Got My New Glasses Today ~ Two Pairs ....!
Outlaw Pete replied to Outlaw Pete's topic in General Talk
My nipples look Intense! One pair's for sitting at this thing. Arms length from the screen and clearly seeing every word Other pair are for " Reading " (Birds rings, in my case! ) What had got to looking like; " D07k?32 " Now looks like " D075832 "!!! I've never seen rings so clearly! And, I was seriously worried there that I'd get the f**king sack ~ because I simply couldn't be trusted to read the damn numbers correctly any more
