  1. Alright lads, This is a bit of an expansion from the if you were starting again thread, we all have our preferred methods and types of hunting and most of us have a good idea of what breeding tends to suit what and where you run. Say you had empty runs and had to restock what would you get and why? My personal preference is lamping, mooching and a bit of terrierwork, I know personally I cant justify more than 2 real running dogs, id certainly go for a similar bred collie bull grey to my existing bitch to cover me for a bit of everything. Next would definatly be a well
  2. I had a subscription for 2 year's, and I liked it a lot. Well written and not overly expensive either. Definitely worth a look.
  3. Ive got a Collie bull grey bitch here around 2 years old, to be fair shes taken longer to switch on than I expected but I think its due to being run alongside some very good older dogs that belong to my pals......I think it can in a way hold a young dog back confidence wise. But as a general member of the pack/family shes sound as a pound laid back not dominant (even though shes significantly bigger than my other lurcher and terrier). That little bit of collie I think takes the edge off the bull which is not always a bad thing. Would consider a Saluki bull grey but in all honesty where I run e
  4. You can get a good idea how they're gona end up by looking at the length of back theyve got. Quite rare for a long backed pup to end up less than 25" ish.
  5. A racey collie bull grey for me, or 3/4 grey 1/4 bull.
  6. Ive thought along these lines too that some folk will go for types that draw less attention, but im hoping the conservatives stay in power because there will end up being about 10 coppers left for the whole of the UK in a few years then it'll be game on
  7. All angles covered with them id say, credit to you lads.

  12. i don t like the big types to be honest. Half crosses 23 or 24 the 5/8 was 24 also. nice handy typesyeah ive had a few big types mate had some big lads some were alrite then you get the big clumsy ones they always take alotblong to mature ive found could justvjust be me though where I work my dogs the quarry are in smaller fields I never really like to have anything bigger then 25tts I like something thats got a good take off and loves to hit cover Theres some massive impressive looking bullxs about but I dont think its necessarily the case that you need that sort of size animal to do the job.
  13. They sound like a very good pair Grunter should be very handy pups. All the best with them.
  14. Strong looking things, atb with them.
  15. Used to live near there yrs ago, cant really form an opinion from that pic as to whether that dogs actually being "Dragged". Not really my first choice for excersizing a dog on a shit hole industrial estate.
  16. This bitch is starting to get the hang of the job.
  17. Ive talked a lot with Bosun, about adding working terrier blood when I breed my small bitch in a year or two. This thread has gone off comparing bull type to earthdog blood. I dont really understand why its gone that way obviously if you want a big heavy type you aren't going to put earthdog blood in the mix. Im of the opinion that a nice leggy fell type put to a small lurcher could add nose coat and hunting drive that virtually nothing else could.
  18. Really.......I was unaware of that. Thanks for the info.
  19. Really there are very few types with as many well tried and tested examples as the black dogs.
