Wild Camping, Hiking, Back pack, Tent talk, Mini camper etc.......
lampingboy replied to hawki's topic in General Talk
I can't confirm FD as we had our 2 year old lad with us but I can't Imagine there's much that wouldn't move with my 18 stone arse on top of it. -
Thanks mate, reasonably happy with them. They're 4800 x 3250 which was my limit with my garden unfortunately. The concrete floor slopes to the drains which are set in an L shape so easy to clean out. Also easy to change the layout depending on how many dogs you've got. I've got room for 4 1500 x 1500 kennels or a mixture of sizes as I've got some 1200 and 2m panels too. Just got to add the sink unit, hot water heater, chest freezer and a few wall units or shelves for storage. I was going to render the outside but thinking of battening it and insulating in between for noise purposes

Few pics of it so far. Still a work in progress, works been busy the last couple of months. Between that, family life and everything in between I've been trying to plod on with the kennels when time allows. Picking up a new lurcher pup next week and a mates gifted me a black bitch so will have to pull my finger out and get the last few bits sorted ASAP.

Wild Camping, Hiking, Back pack, Tent talk, Mini camper etc.......

Nice night away last weekend, only a quick one as didn't get away from the yard until 11.30 ish after laying concrete. First night in the tentbox and can say we enjoyed it and slept well. I usually prefer a more remote camping spot but we were meeting friends in their camper and they wanted electric hookup so headed up to baskerville Hall in Hay on Wye. Cheap enough £24 for two adults for the night and they leave you alone to it. -
Plenty of spots down my way I could point you to but I reckon you're up north so a bit far away?

Crikey, I've just binge read the whole 22 pages of this thread whilst sat poolside in Turkey. What a cracking read FUJI. Your passion for your way of life and love for your animals shines through mate. Hats off for the effort you made to get both dogs healed up! Thank you for sharing your experiences, threads like this are what it's all about for me. The landscape you hunt is beautiful, were you born and bred in that neck of the woods?

I bought a Hikmicro Condor CQ50L last week. Bought from Scott Country who were spot on with their delivery time and price, I think it was £1997 Inc VAT which was the cheapest I found. Fancied one for a while but was reluctant to spend the money but after a days stalking using my mates pulsar (I can't remember what model) and using another mate's cheap thermal regularly lamping i finally bit the bullet. I looked at various models from pulsar, Hik, zeiss and a few others at the stalking show. The zeiss DTI 4/50 being my favourite. I liked how it felt in the hand, not to b

Enjoyed that, thanks for the post . Much the same as you, rabbit numbers have dwindled the last few years here. I do have one particularly good permission that I've been thinking of doing the same thing with though if I get five minutes spare

Finish pulling some footings this morning ready for the new kennels

I've searched the site but can't seem to find a similar topic but if there is, please could you post the link? Finished renovating the house I'm in about 16 months ago and with the weather (hopefully) soon to break, I need to build some kennels. I've got in my head what I want but would be keen to see what others have done before hand, whether it's the premier Inn or Hilton of dog kennels, let's see them.

I'll give this a go myself later on I usually start at 5m on the catch box then go out to 10/12m, the length of my garden.

I agree, and with the world ever changing I don't see it getting any easier to get out and about.

It shows how quick time passes, I thought that was last month. Turns out it was November . I'm getting old.....

It's certainly a steep learning curve and very rewarding, you're right. The ferrets had yesterday's kill but I do enjoy pigeon when cooked right. Here's two from last month, taken with the shotgun though.

In all fairness Tats its a lovely frame. I've got some TTF frames which fit my hand better but I can't quite get accurate enough with them. I like pinch grip but I've been shooting this with a thumb brace. I've got one other OTT frame which fits perfectly but it's wrap and tuck type which is fine but with the tapers I've been shooting, the bands don't last me a week and always seem to go at the worst times. Atleast with the clip type I can swap them out on the go within a minute. Out of all the stuff I get up to, going out with the catty and dog is my favourite, I think it's the simp

Somewhere between Christmas and New year, I picked up a catty for the first time since being a kid. In the hunt for accuracy, Ive tried five different frame widths, numerous band sets, ammo sizes, TTF, OTT etc. and I've finally got my first kill today. Wasp Wolf, precise .6mm yellow bands, 100mm active length, 19/11mm taper. 8mm steel ammo. Took a pigeon off a lamp post at about 15 yards. Over the moon. Also picked up a new knife today. We'll see how it holds its edge

Friday afternoon, the nights are drawing out and some long awaited decent weather meant it was time to get out for a few hours. Started with half hour on the catch box with the catty then headed out to a nearby permission. Tool of choice was the Air Arms s410carbine Plenty of greys and pigeons upon arrival which quickly scarpered. No close range shots available with the catty (not close enough for my skill level anyway) so got the air arms out and went to check zero. All looking good so went for a walk up alongside some beech trees where the greys usually hang around. I sp

You're quite possibly right in what you're saying. Mine did her first blind retrieve with a dead pigeon today. We managed 5 or 6 blinds/ memories from different spots. Happy with her progress.

Apparently they are excellent to work alongside birds. I've been trying to get my hands on Roy Bebbingtons book but it seems to be unavailable everywhere I look. I agree, it's a great shame to not work any dogs that have been bred for it. My mother has an 18 month old bitch who is half sister/ cousin to mine who is basically just a pet, has had very little training compared to mine and is a bit of a nightmare/ pain in the arse to be honest. I'm a firm believer that working dogs need a purpose, even if that's just training to work!
-
That's understandable. I'll be honest, in the first few months of owning her there were a few times I thought what on earth have I done. Not so much because of her energy levels but more the fact she was 100x more clingy, needy and vocal than any ex misses I've ever had! And that's saying something. I used to take her to work with me a few days a week in the early days but soon stopped that because of how needy she became. Some more crate/kennel time seemed to fix that over a few week period. Don't get me wrong, she adores being with you and I like that but I couldn't stick her the way sh

Yes that's right. I partially stripped her before Christmas, her most dense areas anyway. She's probably due another tidy up soon. I agree, I'm sure her coat will change with age the big ginger fecker

My wirehaired vizsla, just about 7 months old now and starting to fill out. Was hoping for a shorter tighter coat when I picked her but wouldn't change her character. Very biddable soft pup.
