Absolutely fascinating, it is! I edited the original post. I understand that not all offspring would be sterile but there would be an increase in sterile offspring between the species. I'm hypothesising that that a situation that has a limited gene-pool [exotic cats in the UK] would be further reduced [escaped/released into the wild] and then mating between the species [hybrids]. The further remote it gets the less the likelihood of it being a viable long term trend, surely? Not enough morning coffee on my part! I editted the original post. Indeed not all the offspring wou

you explain so much better than me but I think we are on the same page I think so greyman. The point I am trying to make is that there is a difference between "unlikely" and "impossible"?

I expect you are right Chris certainly the founder population would be very small which would lead to a high inbreeding coefficient and in the medium term one of the effects of inbreeding is a drop in fertility. But if there is a population of big cats going back to releases in the 1970s then genetically this is short term. And in the long term (say 50 or 100 generations) a population would either go through the genetic bottleneck and fertility plus other side effects would then increase again, or the population would simply go extinct

Some are sterile others are not so. For example most ligers are sterile but there have been occasional second generation bred back to lions or tigers. Just like the occasional mule is sterile. Some of the other hybrids may or not be sterile. For example all these exotic x domestics are fertile such as Caracals serval lynx etc So you may even find that the hybrids are not only fertile but that hybrid vigour (heterosis) actually makes them stronger more disease resistant etc and works in their favour. All purely theoretical of course but it makes for an interesting discussion

I love my music I play guitar used to be in bands love watching live music but it seems glastonbury is not about the music if you are actually there its a social type thing. I can think of nothing worse than rolling about in mud and rubbish with thousands of drunk or stoned or tripping or just plain boring strangers while bottles of piss are chucked about and people shit on the floor cos they can't be bothered to find the toilet. I watch what I want to on the TV thought foofighters were great even if that's not really my type of music. My Mrs on the other hand who is a classically train

A big cat will need an average of 2 to 4 percent of its bodyweight per day depending on age activity weather etc. So let's say a 100 lb puma will need say 30lb per week or say one roe deer for arguments sake

The picture is a domestic cat. But the area in question round st Albans etc is a real hotbed of big cat reports. There is a big cat breeding centre near Wheathampstead apparently they get visited by big cats quite often. I have been trying to get in contact with the owner as much as anything just to see if it is possible to have a look round but it would be good to put up a trail cam near his fence line

There's a nightclub near me called pink punters for all the perverts. I shouldon't wonder if deliveries are asked to slip round the back door ?

I took the kids to a civil war reenactment last summer it was actually great. They had a whole camp like a village set up and I found it fascinating. The actual battle was noisy intense and quite realistic about 500 soldiers copying the original battle

Had south African bloke visit the estate a few years ago. Walks up to me when I was doing some fencing and says "you really do your own maintenance? " to which I said yes. He shook his head and said "you should get a black to do it. If he does it wrong whip him round the head he will soon learn or else just get another in instead"

This is the problem. Finding somebody with enough inegligence to be credible to everyone from all backgrounds and sociAl groupings. And then finding them a voice on the big stage. There is enough discontent and anger that the right person with the right message would get enormous public support. Just look what farage achieved

I have to say that had those dirty sand niggers tried that shit in any of the old pubs where I grew up round new cross or Deptford they would have got a fecking good hiding. I'm sure there are other places where the same could be said. Time for concealed carry to be legalised methinks. A lot went wrong in the 8 minutes it took for the police to arrive didn't it . Not that I blame the police of course

I'm still trying to figure why a coach was selected who is clearly not the best coach in british rugby. He's probably not even the best coach in wales ?
