ive been heating it up to critical temp, so it's non magnetic and then quenching in oil, and then once fully cool and polished back up I've been tempering it to a straw colour with the blow torch.It may not be the best way to do it but it seems to work well on the steel I'm using.
Worked for centuries so no reason it won't work now. I have done a lot that way and works well for a quick blade.
My Mrs got a new oven and it has a higher top temp than the last one so after hardening with the quench it comes into the kitchen and i temper in it with a soak for 45min at 220 ish for straw/bro
