one near me that has one hole and just goes in a loop, had foxes running the dog in circles. its only shallow so You have to break through and block its path if it doesnt bolt out of the entrance. Isnt really a holding earth just a place foxes will drip in when forced.
I would be taking rocks and stones out of the ground, not putting them back in. one day you may regret it when you dont break through on top of it and you have to tunnel a bit
i find the hard terriers do a good job of bolting fox when they steam into them. Wereas some fox will sit in a stop all day if the terrier works them from a distance.
borders are slow starters at doing what theyre bred for, not ratting. Any terrier should be capable of taking rats and bushing. All breeds can do it, so there isnt really anything special about plummers other than the price of em
