I was walking through a dense wood last week when about 20yds in front of me a red deer, and a white red deer shot out in front of me. Really made me jump. Anyone seen one before, id imagine theyre quite a rare sight.

I think it all depends on your definition of hard, as the working style of hard dogs varies a lot. Some are mute some arent, some wanna hold some wanna fight. Hard dogs were needed before locators and after aswell. If you had 'soft dogs' pre locator you would never get a steady mark. From what ive been told hard dogs have always been around, its the lack of voice that is more common due to the locator as its not essential for finding anymore.

If a dog marks it can go in, if its not interested it doesnt get to go in. If quarry has been near the earth the dog will scent before it gets to an entrance. Simple.

Bought the pup at the side of the road, came with no certs. Act dumb.

Rough or smooth, doesnt mean that the coats are better than each other. Ive had smooth dogs with coats that are really thick, thicker than most fell types. And ive had fell types with piss poor coats. Having a look at the parents is you best bet when picking a pup.

I say do what works for you and dont knock someone elses methods. As their stock may be completely different. For example, a fella who has has the chance of owning line bred dogs who is happy with them would have no reason to venture to other types. Wereas someone who cant get/doesnt have a line bred kennel will have to breed best to best as the starting blood is too varied to have an exact type, e.g you breed this black bitch to this black dog(both have same attributes)and all pups come out white. Unless you have the opportunity of owning a dog were you know its breeding for generations, i ca

if you describe a working dog as violent, that means working your dog is an act of violence. I wouldnt say the dog hates its quarry at all, id say they love doing their job. Its not a feeling of hate that you may like to believe, but instinct that is bred into them, they have to do it. But terrierwork isnt violent, its hunting.

They have interfered with tubes as they have removed the original entrances and replaced them with flexi pipe connecting to the original tubes

Just been to a local sett for a nosey as i heard the news. The antis hired a machine and skimmed several foot off the whole area and leveled with concrete and rebar then put earth back over the top of it. Twin walled plastic pipes are shoved in to hold up the entrances. Im sure this is classed as disturbing a sett. Anyone heard this before.
