LOL... bet you have a great many feelings reminisening over them and the journeys behind the pics... that's what terrier work all is about...as has been said and been being said for over 30 years....as long as proper terrier work is conducted then its legal!.... totally humane.... and the most species specific form of targeted control there is... non toxic... totally organic...and land bes re-instated as best they can by men who know how to wildlife manage... for free... no brainer...

I have seen a high percentage of real good terriers over many years... in the wrong hands... many times..over $$$$... money and terriers don't mix . as soon as payment comes into it men get lazy or incompetent... that's just my thought... I don't want to offend anyone...
-
also on the 2 hour comment...at least the lads being honest with himself and getting out there trying... I think what he was trying to say was...from what he has been told by a few already in the game is don't ruin the young dog....let him take it all in his stride...and when the bug really bites and you start travelling... youll soon know what you have... best of luck with him and if he doesn't work hope you do the right thing...

Zilverhaze is spot on... genuine working terriers when vetted to the correct folk are usually laid back quiet individuals, but when there in work mode there's that cold streak of confidence and the best take everything in there stride... the breeders of the genuine successful quiet lines are the same... genuine working terrier men with the same cold streak, but when you mess up...contact can be cut like a thread as well as access to genuine blood and access to the same men who keep the true circle turning.... No money ever passes... just the same ideology, the same ethics, and morals, the cir

you see I think your confused neil.... if your using traps for rats outside then its say mk4s or a cage ?....mk4s by law both north and south have to be set in tunnels and the trap anchored... and sticks set over the entrance to prevent non target species like rabbit pheasant from entering... if its cages which would be a squirrel cages its off the ground a foot to prevent non target species and the sides have to be covered to protect in from the elements and has to be check morning and dusk... so in my opinion would be the trap was set very poorly by an incompetent individual, thus a pheasan

pity...if you had of knew what you were doing and the laws regarding trapping gray squirrels the pheasant would have survived... when you knew you had a non target species visiting your traps...the pheasant...you said you saw him.... then your traps should have had 2 sticks pushed down vertically nearly crossing at the top at the trap door entrance to prevent your non target pheasant from going in or it should have been raised 1 foot of the ground preventing the pheasant from entering the traps.... and another thing your setting your rat trap far too heavy if a pheasant can come in remove

the 2 fellas that I know keep this type don't keep it for the names or romanticism of old breed, or to sit on the THL talking cyber. they keep it because they were offered pups for free to work and work hard and when they don't...they wont be there. No if ands or excuses.... saying remember he or her did this or its out of that.... some of these men also keep blacks,....and its the same thing....they only keep them because they get every fox accounted for shallow or deep....not because of pastence, names or money! Imagine that eh! -

.it all happened many moons ago.... there are all terrier Xs now a days but if there genuine you still see the old influence a mile off.... may not just be in the head either.. -
Didn't you know that dogs with average intelligence can understand around 165 words a bit like dog IQ. Fells and Lakies fall Into this category. Then White Russell and Sealyham types along with Border Collies and German Shepards have a higher level of understanding in the region of 195 - 205. Then Black Patterdales types and Plummer types are down the spectrum of understanding around the 105 - 115 level. A bit dumb really! I thought everyone knew that? Your being generous at 105 - 115 for the Patterdales.................LOL Would have thought 4-5.......fight, eat, kill.......SOLD

your going with your head down feeling defeated.... farmer can see a mile away your not confident...so how can you be confident and competent to be allowed on his land with valuable livestock or arable land. Chin up smartly dressed and don't just knock on door asking to hunt....strike up a conversation name drop a farmer near by say you were driving past and do a bit for such and such you noticed a few bunnies or whatever on the land does he need help with them or has he got them sorted...show him your insurance know what your talking about and still drop him your number if he has men hunting

yes Neil your correct back in 2011-12 I posted a few pictures of legal terrier work and the terrier may have had a little superficial lipstick on them that some folk who may not be familiar with an active working life of a terrier used for vermin control would think it was inappropriate, , and yes I remember the time I posted a picture of a 14 month old bull x up to his shoulders marking a very well used rabbit warren while out doing ferreting work, but that was showing not all bull x's be used in the incorrect way and are brain dead! not looking for an argument never have life's short -

Sure were you not just debating the other day how it looks un professional if you don't train your terriers to run empty burrows to make it look professional? And if a terrier hasn't being trained to check every burrow he is lying because as you say he hasn't been trained to run it to make sure hes game bred! also makes you wonder why folk make so many posts if they know they are being monitored! -
1. dogs strays onto farmers land especially at this time of year when all ewes will have been tipped and has form for not being diplomatic can shoot on site without anyone's permission or say so.... so will not have broken any laws. 2. anyone running hounds and has the proper hunting ethics will know his ground inside out, will know the farmers numbers and call midweek to let them know you will be in that area on a certain day, explain you will have men there will know the country inside out and the boundaries and to be honest the fox will usually break the same run's, but its hunting anyt

I have no argument with you Neil, its not primary school...I just asked you a question... how do you make pups... or experienced terriers run an empty earth.... genuine question? Stopend, in any type of training a dog for hunting you never MAKE a pup do something. Whether that's a gundog retrieving, a lurcher chasing or a terrier travelling an earth. They have to WANT to do it and good well bred terriers will want to find game. IMO the only type of working dogs that are MADE to do something are performing dogs in a circus. Are you a clown Stopend ? Genuine question. Why would y
