  3. Looks like we're on the same wavelength Tegater
  4. Heading trouble off at the pass, so to speak. No wonder with the in incidents recently involving legally owned arms. To be fair though, I seem to remember the last couple of incidents with legal arms were with people who shouldn't have had certificates, given HO guidelines.
  5. From what I've read recently, 1 drink-driving offence is grounds for revocation certificate on its own.
  6. In normal circumstances I'm about the same, every 20-30 shots I clean it pretty thoroughly and don't find it a massive chore. That said, I've had 60-shot practise sessions conducted at a more leisurely rate and the groups didnt open up at all which certainly showed that rate of fire has an impact on accuracy. Bore fouling after 60 shots certainly wasn't an issue. Harmonics? Or heat expansion? I assumed that the warmer barrel expanded enough to make the bullet a looser fit, compared to how close the fit is between bullet and barrel when the barrel is cold, which led to wider groupings.
  7. I've got a pro-shot kit, but no bore guide. Neither shop I went to recommended or stocked one.
  8. Hi folks. This isn't a willy-waving 'how bleedin accurate am I' thread before anyone starts , more looking to swap notes. On tuesday I fitted and zero'd a new scope to my hmr and was generally very pleased, especially as the extra magnification allowed me to print some really tight groups out to 150 yards. I noticed though as I started to plough through some rounds, that the groups started to open up quite alarmingly! The 150 yard group went from 5p coin size for 3 shots to 4 inches! At first I suspected barrel fouling (by that point I'd got through 60 or 70 rounds), but then I touched the
  9. I agree with the consensus that high velocity .22 lr rounds are a waste of time - hopelessly inaccurate compared to subs and of course you lose the main advantage of the rimfire: quietness. Personally, I think the .22lr is best for 50- or 90 yards, after that, its not really the best tool in the box. I'd use an air rifle if the range was less than 50 yards on rabbits anyway as they are cheaper to run (not that rimmies cost the earth to run lol!) and they can shoot safely in places where powder burners can't.
  10. it does make misery more comfortable though

  13. Over the years I've lost quite a few 'running' the few yards to a hedgerow or burrow and these days try to wait til they a re facing away from the burrow/hedge before I release the shot. I've retrieved quite a few from their holes - stone dead, for the sake of reaching in to check.
  14. I've had some pretty good days decoying pigeon to pasture. No clover either, just a standard U shape pattern close to a flight line and they divert to at least 'have a look'. Quite rare that they land though, and you tend to have to get crossers rather than those committing to land which makes for more challenging shooting (and more enjoyment when you've got your eye in).
  15. You can get oil from birch too - good waterproofing agent.
  16. ...and what breed was your father?
  17. Hi guys, so Sunday I went out with Paulus for an airgunning go at roosting pigeons. We'd been with shotguns before and had pretty decent bags and some really good, challenging sport. Paul suggested we try the same with air rifles this time - he with his FAC Rapid, me with my legal limit HW100S. The weather started out nice but soon became threatening as we took up position. As we were there quite early, we had a bit of a wait before the pigeons came into roost. I got comfortable and listened to the myriad of woodland songbirds as they built up a gentle but beautiful chorus. The odd squi
  18. Funny, whenever I'm out with Capt Shitshot and we find ferals in the barns, I always get Shitters to pop 'em as I find them too easy and it doesn't seem very sporting. Don't get me wrong, I do shoot ferals if I have to - pest control is pest control. Maybe I'm getting soft in my old age lol! Good haul though - did they go to a good home Phil? Cheers Duncan
  19. If you're not seeing myxi'd bunnies, its probably RVHD. It pops up now and then, kills them quick in their burrow and nobody knows why. They just 'disappear'. Round here, we had a crap year last year for bunnies, but on some of my permissions now they are back to problem level, happily. I do still have permissions literally 4 miles away that are entirely devoid of bunnies. At least rabbit populations always bounce back, sooner or later If not, I did know of someone who caught rabbits live and transported them to a place that hadnt seen rabbits for years. Then he had healthy populations
