  1. Looks like the wind just pushed it off to the right a fraction! Cracking go though
  2. I have put an airgun shot deliberately high over a foxes head to send it back the other way when it was stalking goslings at my posh manor house shoot (she doesn't want me hitting the foxes though , but doesn't want to lose 'her' geese either). I have had foxes come as close before when I've been in my 'realtree'.
  3. Get yourself an airgun, buddy! Get loads of practise at whatever ranges you want to hunt humanely at and possibly join a club? As soon as a permission lands for you, you'll be sharp enough to make an impact on bunny numbers that the owner wants and you'll keep the permission. Remember to keep to nice clinical headshots and you'll avoid 'runners' and the wrath of the local anti's. Best of luck mate!
  4. +1 from me - the varmint barrel is the only one that is supposed to be fully floating and can have intermittent accuracy issues because of this. I speak from (slightly) bitter experience. The American I tried belonging to a friend had no such probs. Incidentally, the trigger is adjustable. I adjusted mine and improved it immensely. Cheers Duncan.
  5. drinkers are less inhibited - depends how far gone we're talking!
  6. that's the one tony, thanks. Apart from mine has a painted brown stock - might strip it to see what the wood underneath looks like. I can always repaint it if it's nasty I like the way the ad says 'extremely powerful', but fails to quote either fps or fpe.
  7. I can see one ...but it kinda looks like a T rex too
  8. I occasionaly get within 50 yards of them and was contemplating a headshot at this range. I've got the 20grn stuff for the purpose. For me it is only an occasional thing and at present, I don't see it becoming a big paret of my pest control. If it does, I'd go for a cf as the regular fox busting tool. Cheers D.
  9. Hi Pipcock, I've got it on adobe format - can email it if you pm me your addy
  10. Give 'em a go! You'll kick yourself for anytime you left them for the fox - I certainly did
  11. Squirrel is one of my all time favourite meats; firm sweet and almost creamy. You can simply season them and fry in a hot pan for a few minutes each side but I love Cajun Squirrel Hinds. You will need: Cajun spice mix (with extra chilli powder in mine) mixed with flour to coat the hinds. an egg or two, beaten Squirrel hinds Deep fat fryer or chip pan. Score the hinds with a knife a few times each side and liberally coat with beaten egg and allow excess to run off. Then cover with cajun spiced flour. In a hot deep fat fryer (usually veg oil rather than fat), immerse the
  12. Hi folks, I know that you'll always find someone who'll say that .17hmr is not enough gun for fox, and others that say you can kill them out to 1000 yards etc etc, but, as the HO guidelines state that you can shoot foxes with the hummer, what kind of range would most practitioners say is a max? Furthermore, do I presume correctly that headshots are the order of the day? Cheers all, Duncan
  13. Nice! A mixed game stew in the making. Very well done! Duncan.
  14. Me neither mate - any growths means a discarded bunny for me.
  15. IMO the margin for error increase of .22 over .177 is small, but certainly notable. I've nothing against .22, in fact I hunted exclusively .22 springers for the first 10 years of my airgun hunting experience. With my .177 pcp, I find any slight range finding error doesn't result in a miss, unlike with the more lobbed trajectory of the .22. I'd have to say though that the need for good shot placement is even more important with .177, but easier to attain. Regarding bunnies jumping around after being headshot - ever killed a chicken? They can run for 10 mins with no contents in the
  16. Lamping with your air rifle is a great tactic, should get good numbers.
  17. My old teacher always used to say "You'll have somebody's eye out" - in your first pic, you defo managed it Well done on you trip - sounded like you had a lot of fun. Love hitting the greys! Duncan.
  18. Sounds like a goer! Thanks very much Jocky
  19. Hi folks, I took apart the SMK air rifle last night as I'd testfired it and got a lot of smoke, which did not dissipate even after 20 shots or so. Investigating the internals seemed the best idea so I stripped it to its component parts. It became clear that the dufus who'd given me the rifle had put oil down the transfer port, lots of it. I cleaned up the cylinder as best I could, cleaned the spring, spring guide and had a go at cleaning up the piston, but it seems like the piston crown is made of leather or compressed card as it is definitely porous and has soaked up a lot of oil.
  20. Great to see - a nice pic of a fox live and well. As has been said: very well done on the self-restraint! D
