  1. Wishing you all the best James, with your attitude you will succeed. If you're near me, I don't mind showing you the ropes with air power, .22 lr etc. Atb Duncan.
  2. Halty, I really enjoyed your account of exploits and find your writing style entertaining, free of condescension and honest. I'd be very happy to read more of anything you put up. Try to ignore whin; I hear he has an inverted penis which causes him chagrin beyond human measure. Cheers and all the best mate. Duncan.
  3. My advice? No food, put him in the car/van and drive for as long as it takes til he doesn't throw up anymore. Then half hour after getting back, take him out again. Worked with any car sick dog I've ever had. Cheers D.
  4. Youre a stand up guy Les - wish you were closer to me lol! Duncan.
  5. Yes, the land will still need to be cleared for whichever calibre for anyone on a closed ticket (all fac's start out as close tickets). As said, why not try a legal limit air rifle? I've shot plenty of woodies myself with my 12fpe pcp air rifle and airgun roost shooting can be awesome fun!
  6. Wouldn't risk my dogs in a fight with a boar, prefer getting a .308.
  7. None of my dogs seem to want to make a pie
  8. Fab write up mate and it's good to hear how a routine walk can turn itno a successful hunting trip. Bet you're loving your young bitch
  9. changing gear??? price of fuel ,the land is wet as f**k ,and 11 till 6 in a morning you do the mathematics clever clogs Lol! Just yanking your chain dude!
  10. Shooting skylined targets with a firearm is a big no-no. Even the humble rimmie bullet can kill 100's of yards away, possibly up to a mile. You are also extremely unlikely to get an fac other than for fac air on 6 acres, maybe 100 acres plus? depends on the topography of the land too. Call your local feo and ask for advice matey, Duncan.
  11. Hi Jim, I'm a bit of a trek from you in N Bucks (but not as far as Essex I think), but as the weather gets colder, pigeons will be hitting the rape on my permissions and you're welcome to join me for a blatt at them. I can offer other field sports too - lamping, airgunning, spot of inland wildfowling etc. If you don't find something closer to home, feel free to drop me a pm and I'll try to accomodate you. Cheers and good luck, Duncan. PS/Edit - autorouted that I'm approx 70 miles from Kingston On Thames
  12. My glass is half full...'Waiter!'

  13. My glass is half full :)

  14. Fair play mate - better to ask than pull the trigger when wondering 'what if'. Cheers Duncan.
  15. My HW100S is 5 years old, but I don't think they changed the barrels at all since then. I should have brought some 4.52's up when we last met It would make an interesting comparison test, especially if the range was set at 40 yards, rather than 27. ATB Duncan.
  16. I tried it too, the crop shot that is, after taking advice on the PW forum. Out ot 4 birds I shot, 3 flew on. I haven't used it since, but stick to the cranial shot unless the bird has its back to me, then its between the shoulder blades.
  17. Excellen work Si - have you tried AA field 4.52? I reckon you could tighten those groups even more! Cheers D. PS/Edit - there goes my spelling; I must be a scammer lol
  18. The crop is where they hold food before swallowing and digesting it. Personally, I wouldn't recommend shooting it there as a 12 fpe pellet will have a tough job making it through if the birds been on the acorns, haw berries etc. It'll probably still die, but not soon enough for my liking.
  19. Some of the posts on this thread seem massively condescending. Just suppose you were fresh to hunting and wanted to get into the sport but have no family or friends to show you the way? Read, ask advise on places like this and give it a go ! Yes, of course, you start off clueless, as you do when you try anything new, FFS! I've introduced and taught many how to shoot, hunt with firearms, airguns etc and some good friends have come from this. Naturally, I've had the odd one take the piss, but been dealt with. It's a risk you take when you agree to take a stranger out and judgement plays a
  20. I think it depends a bit on the gender of the owner - speaking in general terms as I'm pretty fresh to full on hunting dogs. My mrs gets on with our dogs better, and I find the bitches are more keen to please and less headstrong. Cheers D.
