  1. Hi Mike, I've since sold the HMR but found keeping the barrel dirty improved the groups
  2. Here's how my Anschutz 1517 grouped at 100 yards: https://youtu.be/e-6Ldi2orSo
  3. Nailed these two out of the farmhouse window with the .22LR. Perfect little squirrel tool - no messing
  4. I think I am sort of agreeing with you but putting it another way. HMR carries plenty of energy at 200 yards to stop a rabbit or crow instantly. It may not deliver that energy as efficiently as at some distances, and delivering it to the right place at 200 yards isn't that easy either. In simple terms I don't really see the HMR as a 200yard everyday tool for anything...but then again, a HMR to a .223 is more than a 1000ft lb increase, there are several choices in between those two! I've had a number of 'pass throughs' on both rabbits and crows past 150 yards with the HMR where
  5. PCP's? You might as well use a catapult
  6. The HMR isn't much use past 150 yards if there's any wind and the ballistic tips don't carry enough energy to effectively work at 200 yards - you get a nice .17 hole in whatever you shoot A good .22lr should serve you well out to at least 100 yards in my experience. I decided to chop my HMR for a .223 and haven't regretted it. I imagine a Hornet would be a better alternative if you don't fancy going up to .223
  7. Thinking about it Night Hunter. Might be a bit low down for the smoke to clear the garden but tempted to give it a go!
  8. Just thought I'd share a short series of clips of my newly built workshop for reloading. Hoping to start reloading in 2015.
  9. Set up as above then buy a scope bubble level and attach it to your scope for future reference. Vortex do a good one
  10. .17 WSM?Which part of the country are you in, is this an import, where does he get ammo? He reeled you right in there Deker!
  11. I'm with Charlie on this one, I bet there's nothing in it. Not the best clip demonstration due to wind noise but here's me shooting my .223. Skip to 2:30min for the shots
  12. Or .223 No nasty chav calibre I'm not a reloader yet but when weighing up my centrefire options I was told that, "You can always reload a .223 to perform like a .222 but not vice versa." How true this is I don't know but it sounded logical to an newbie centrefire user like me.
  13. Here you go: http://www.riflecraft.co.uk/products/viper-65-20x50-pa-with-mil-dot-reticle-moa-199.aspx Heard great things about the Vortex range of scopes. Their glass is supposed to be fantastic and the scope great for dialling in
  14. I'm hoping to buy a onelesscharlie 'S series' mod tonight. Heard lots of.good reviews. It's a stainless steel mod weighing in at 400 grams. Hopefully be the business and as good as the stainless ASE mods.
  15. Was told by my RFD to clean the bore of my .223 after every use due to the corrosive propellant used in centrefire ammo
  16. It does sound a useful little calibre. I'd be interested to hear how Cedric is getting on with his Hornet
  17. Yes I know, they are two completely different rifles and the Hornet is much more powerful than the rimfire however I'd like to draw up some comparisons between the two because I recently sold my HMR to move into centrefire. As it turns out I've actually bought a .223 but I have added .22H to my ticket as a direct replacement for my HMR. The idea being that I'd use the Hornet to control foxes and rabbits on the golf course. I have read a few posts about a few shooters chopping their HMR for a Hornet. Many say that the report of the Hornet is similar to a HMR so you might as well have the ex
  18. Tikka T3 Varmint .223 (1:12 twist) Picked it up today. I'm a bit chuffed Got some 53 grain Hornady V-Max to try out first
  19. What a haul! I've got a Tikka T3 varmint .223 waiting for me to collect at my local shop. Having never used .223 before how do you rate the rifle? It clearly does the business but what's it like to shoot? Is there much recoil and can you easily maintain the sight picture? I've had a few shots with my pals .243 at night and once you've pulled the trigger you're just hoping for the best!
  20. I have a swazi jacket I bought in New Zealand. Had it 8 years and it's still as good as new
  21. I went out with my pal on Sun night and shot two rabbits on the golf course. First was at 95 yards and the second at 110. He was stood about 20 yards behind me and didn't even hear the rifle fire, just the sound of the bullet impact Subsonic all the way for stealth
