  1. Pork is OK if a bit fatty at times. It was traditionally avoided because of the likelyhood of parasites passing to the dogs. As long as the bones are non weight baring and its in average amounts mixed with other meat and offal I dont see a huge problem feeding it.
  2. Dont you just hate that.. Should be a excellent read thats without a doubt
  3. I was gonna ask the same thing  Just with so many post like that of late I am glad you did it first Moll
  4. The attitude to slightly look down or maybe belittle people with rabbiting dogs is something I have noticed quite a bit. Some people seem to think its slightly inferior or easy to catch rabbits day in day out with a dog regarless of the cross. There is a dog who can catch a rabbit and there are rabbiting dogs. A dog who willl find one anywhere, mark, catch, retrieve live to hand, work free of a slip, work with ferrets all day and lamp a good shift, not just catch a rabbit, crunch it up till it lifeless and drop it..lol any old mutt can do that...lol  In regard to Bull X's i would n
  5. I cant say I really care which came first, but both are an excellent bit of kit to the rabbiter. I ma usre you didnt have longnet baskets 50 years ago made from purpose welded steel with a posh plastic coating..lol Of late I have started using a traditional more and more and really love it, on a clean set using a nylon 4z or similar is a real good killing bit of kit
  6. You need to take charge of this situation and re educate the bitch, she eats what you say remember and I suspect that it wont matter if its dry kibble, raw food she just is a picky eater. Dont start getting into the cycle of changing the diet to suit the dog as you will make the problem a whole lot worse, just stick with your choice of food and try and follow the steps below. This is a very common problem in many young sighthounds and also very common when people allow food to be too readily available ie: drip feeding. This method works and I have recommended it to literally hundreds of do
  7. I have used a McTimony Chiropractor on several ocassions and had good results in a couple of my dogs.
  8. Yes it works very well and ideal as a supplement to help mobility. There is lots on the market and much of it is low quality for dog you always want to use the hydrochloride (HCL) Glucosamine for best results
  9. Feck off fella i had a terrier jack on me a few weeks ago, silly me all i had to do was love the little b*****d and it would of stayed instead of waving the white flag with its tail tucked up its arse Sorry Hedz but I dont think you cancompare a earth dog to a lurcher, as there is a heap more training envolved which needs a bond. Same principle mate all the love in the world aint gonna make a dog if its a wanker ive had a few lurchers jack on me and not make the grade if a dog aint got the heart or what it takes ye can love a dog and marry the fecker if ye like it aint gonna make it is

  11. Working companion, you have to have a bond with a dog to get the best out of it, unless your a point and slip merchant and require little or no training, but to me that is not what a lurcher is all about.
  12. Go's to show how confusing this crap law is! Don't worry you have nothing to worry about
  13. To increase your odds of getting a good dog to suit your type of hunting, getting a dog bred from dogs doing the job to a good standard on the land that is similar to where you hunt is a very good move. It's simply a good idea to improve your odds or reproducing a similar type of dog, but nothing is guaranteed in the dog game.
  14. You're right mate; evidently Ms Noble used to put Greyhound into her Ardkinglas Deerhounds now and again, to stop them getting like Wolfhounds, I talked to old lads who put Beddy into their Lakies, to add a bit fire, it's hapened with many breeds, but if I was after an F! Whipet/Deer, and saw one advertised as such, I'd be pissed off if I later found it had another breed in it ! Cheers. Sorry to go off subject a little but do you have any proof that Ms Noble added greyhound? It seems to be comon knowledge in Deerhound circles, and evidently she was quite open about it. Ch

  16. I honesty think that a bred down Deerhound/Greyhound is without doubt a good dog and ideally a dash of collie would do some good also IMO ;-) But these big horses of dogs are IMO just way to big to be useful on the land I hunt (small fields) 25-30 years ago you couldnt find dogs not of this type of breeding at the lurcher shows...lol
  17. Nice cross and very nice looking, but do people really have a use for dogs 28" - 30+" anymore? They are not for me as the take half a county to turn and there size lets them down on the land I hunt. I have ran a pure deerhound at game when legal and cant say I was impressed, good sport but not bag fillers. Maybe a bred down type would be best dogs throwing around 25"

    stop nets

I find them a excellent bit of kit for hedges. I found the 10z not great as they wont hold rabbits that well IMO But see how you get along. Now I have some spun nylon stop nets and they are deadly when placed in hedges either traditional set or quick set style.
  19. Report them or at least the incident to the police, then its at least logged and on file. Get a card reg if you can also. Take someone with you and if it happens again film them on your phone and dont do anything stupid like threaten them with a firearm or knife. Dont get putt off they are just idiots.
  20. Just work at it, and be honest it really is the best policy if you are into this game long term ;-) Their seem to be too many people poaching supidly and getting caught and this messes it up for honest lads who work hard for the permission. Once you get marked as a poaching wrongun word travels and sticks then you are screwed.
  21. I know what your on about and like i said its not the BEST way at all Simply walking the dog regularly with and around stock and telling the dog no when interest is shown is very very easy to do.You can even start on a long line/rope if you want, but in IMO using a lead and another dog which is already steady can help alot. Feck all these stupid ideas of putting your puppy in with a ram, its not worth the risk.
