    started taking him out at 7 and a half weeks watching and learning.

    theres only one thing thats f*****g the hare population up and thats the same thing thats f*****g the deer and fox population up, GUNS. i remember when the ban came in and hunting with dogs changed to rats and rabbits the local butchers and game dealers had more head shot hares in them than i can ever remember seeing.

    i like to try and keep the dogs somewhere near as you never know when you might just get the perfect conditions and the oppertunity to catch a decent bag. the weather was looking good early on in the night but went dead still and clear when i left the house i was going to try for his first 20 rabbits but the weather let me down.

    i had been sat in the house all evening looking forward to leaving the house for a few hours lamping with the pup. when the time come for me to leave the house to go and lamp a few rabbits i opened the door to leave the house and much to my disapointment the wind had stopped along with the rain, i eventually got to my destination and started my lamping session as the night went on the cloud cleared and the moon came out making the night crap and hard work for the pup as hes only 7 and 3/4 months old. all in all i was pleased with the outcome of the night the pup managed to get another 9 ra

    just wondering how the deer rut is going on in different areas of the country, i am in shropshire and have only heard the start of the rut yesterday its 3 weeks later than last year. i would be interested to hear if or when its started in other parts the country.

    your dog seems to be taking to ferreting quite nicely by the sounds of of it. i see she also seems to have sorted herself out on the lamp aswell, as i said before there could have been any number of reasons why she wasnt on form in the lamp and it was just a off day.

    imo the moon does effect the fish. the trout dont feed as well on a full moon lol.

    there is more of a chance that a deer dog will take sheep on the odd occasion.

    i use a thick lead which goes over my shoulders i can get 22 rabbits on my lead then i have to carry them in my hand on the odd occasion until i get to a drop off point. i always gut my rabbits as i go along in the field so it makes the load alot lighter and easier to carry. fences are not really a problem when fully loaded up as i just drop them over in front of me then climb over myself only when fully loaded up. some nights when there's not much about 2 rabbits can seem heavy. on real busy nights when catching big bags i find you dont think about how much game you are carrying as you a
