  1. Giro I dont have any pics of them.....its a big regret that I never took more pics over the years but who'da thunk the internet was coming?
  2. Dam it I wrote a long reply and it dissa-phuking-peared....Here goes...again! I reared them in a glass tank my kids had been breeding gerbils in. The first lot died because I think I was over feeding them milk from the syringe....they rolled over and passed out when I filled their wee bellies. The second lot referred to in the post I only fed them small sips and kept fresh grass and wholemeal bread in with them all the time, but I think they survived the first week on milk only as the droppings were white like milky bar chocolate. As they ate more and more greens the droppings changes colo
  3. Redpolls and Siskins used to be the first birds down on the poseys of feed that I'd take into the aviary. I'd get handfuls of meadowsweat, hardheads and alder towards the end of summer and go in the aviary and stand there holding a bunch in my hands.....these natives would be down feeding on me before canaries or any other finches....so trusting were they.
  4. On Fairymans gate? It'll be a leveret...... As you know they pop up now and then. My little Fly dog once caught a doe on boxing day that had living, viable young in its belly. I raised them up and me and Templeking released them on land near where I grew up that always held hares. I never took a dog on that land for years afterwards for fear of killing one of them.
  5. Interesting Millet, I never used corn.....just scrambled eggs and oats mixed up. Greenies are great natives to start with. I bred them straight and hybridized with Himalayan Greenfinch and even produced a linnet x greeny hybrid just in a mixed collection aviary with only one greenfinch hen and a single linnet cock living amongst the rest. You've reawaked my interest again.....thanks!
  6. Its a sign that you're winning the argument when your opponent resorts to the logical fallacy of ad hominem attack....instead of presenting a counter argument they attack the person. Nigel Farage has them all worried because his policies so often make sense and are therefore hard to counter. It's easier to try to smear him.......he must be doing something right!
  7. Don't miss your chance to add this new book to you're collection......Simoman has interviewed lurchermen from around the world and added pix and different opinions to our collective experiences and thereby expanded our knowledge of this most versatile of hunting dogs.......!!
  8. Nipper for me......Foxy's brother....Blondie's Sire....beat that record!!!
  9. Dont mind admitting I shed a tear too.....when he said others had given everything....didn't this hero give HIS all? What a MAN!
  10. Had some great days on that land...with Templeking, courtesy of Jim and Tony. Was a classic between those two bitches. Top men with class animals.
  11. Me too....but I wont!
  12. The best dog/stockman I ever met worked (still does) as a bricklayer, is a great family man and built his own house and facilities for his livestock which are second to none I've seen. There's an old saying that if you want a job done promptly ask a busy man......
  13. That sounds about right Bolio.. oold Red was his nickname in the yard. My mate offered to line my bitch with the old boy for free...and I didnt take him up on the offer... big mistake. Did you see him run ? he was no plodder, thats a cert. Yes Vin I saw him run and he killed his hares very quickly that day. But I suggest it was a littermate that your old boy had as Gary kept Red all his life. And no, lol, Red was no plodder
  14. Closer look reveals its actually Reds pedigree, the only dog to make it into the millenium 6 when Blondie won it. Beauty and Beast were out of Noonies Peggy and Drax.
  15. Vin its hard to make out the writing on my phone but that looks like the ped for Noonies Beauty and Beast. Beauty was sold to MQ and was a runner up to her aunt Roxy....sister to Drax.
  16. Blondie for me but dont forget her dam Dancer, who beat Foxy to win it a week after also winning the doubles. An unique achievement!
  17. Great pics Tommy those hills have given me a lot of pleasure over the years too....hand walloping trout, gathering hazel nuts from the glen and taking a few hares and foxes. Long may free access be allowed!
