  1. True Carlovian....a pic of an EBT with a mouthful of mangy goat or pig is "proof" of working ability......while a picture of a lurcher doing the same is proof of a "stock worrier". It all depends upon what level of "work" you're satisfied with......apologies again to the original thread starter for the hijack.
  2. Someone once posted the quote from some Christian that "there are no atheists in foxholes", to which I replied along the lines that being under fire in a hole in the ground is hardly conducive to rational thought. Blind panic, terror and the concomitant emotions have no place in rational debate. Whichever culture the faithful has been born into will determine which god he prays too in time of stress.....hardly scientific!
  3. LOL, not entirely Fargo, they were all one offs. I think it's a matter of record that some original bull terrier blood was added around 100 years ago to get the coloured dogs (I wont call them Staffordshires because this was long before the original bull terrier received K.C. recognition under the Staffordshire name) but presumably there has been enough coloured x white mating in the interim to have mixed the genes across the breed.
  4. Handy was red and white, Tinker was tricoloured....mostly black. But the gamest one I ever saw was pure white. Never trialled though. Dog called Nathan.
  5. But of course you could be wrong. Who knows ? You dont have the proof either way. Bertrand Russell postulated that if he said there was a teapot orbiting the sun somewhere in space between Earth and Mars you couldn't disprove it, but you wouldn't believe it because the burden of proof lies with him. In the same way that the burden of proof lies with the religious believer rather than the sceptic. His "celestial teapot" analogy has given pause for thought to many strident evangelists when they have been challenged to think....rather than regurgitate clichés learned by rote!
  6. AAAAGHHH the fog of ages clears somewhat....thanks for that Carlovian! This is why I encourage young guys to take loads of pix now, while they are living it. We don't get these times back.
  7. Ha FODR...I had to read that twice....I thought you were referring to his sexual proclivities
  8. Sacrilege.....Blondy Paddy's brew could transport you where ever you wanted to go....Nowhere in Ireland did I ever sample better!!
  9. Great pix Carlovian....just shows how age dims the memory....I thought it was Christy who owned Princess. I remember Blondy for a whole other reason. While all the other trailers were full of dogs....Blondy's was full bottles of the sweetest potien I ever tasted! His Glen of Imaal travelled in the boot of the car!
  10. Big E you could breed a corgi to the right kind of bull but it would never produce the "right kind of bull", even though it would be an improvement on the corgi!
  11. When TK and I used to go over to run with the Forley club we were only too glad to be on permission and never minded the dress code. Those guys gave us the best coursing of our lives in a totally relaxed scenario with all the hares we could want and all the land to run them. I'd have gone naked to get the craic we had!!! Never forget you Tony and Jim!
  12. No there was a wee dog from Limerick called "The Gallant Hendrix", Handy and Tinker, which were the only dogs of this breed I remember seeing certifying, which may be a contributing factor as to why there was never any attempt to perpetuate a working strain. The late Christy McC from Cork had some half staff x bulls that did well. Princess being one I remember. Pitbuls will only be able to improve, like any other domestic animal, if they can be selected according to performance....in other words if winning bitches get access to winning dogs. Alas, in this country and even in urban areas in th
  13. That Tinker belonged to an old school pal of mine from the mid 60's, and we still hunt together albeit at a slower pace. Tinker and Handy ( Red Hand of Ulster to give him his full name) were both bred by the same show breeder on the outskirts of Belfast and both certified. I know DH allowed Handy to serve a wheaten bitch for JMcG and the three dogs and one bitch they produced worked well...... at that game......and some were subsequently bred back to wheaten bitches, which is where a lot of the bull influence came in during that era. But I'm unaware of any matings to bull bitches, and I know T
  14. Anyone catch the result of the Northern Ireland (population 1.5 million...of which only 1 million support their country) match against Russia....more than 140 million, at Windsor park tonight?
  15. I'm pretty sure John needs no lessons on mating bitches lads!
  16. He was Charlie Blondie....I had one of the bitches from the Maisie litter and she killed on her first ever outing in Lincs aged about 11 months.....just before I stopped coursing. Wouldn't complain about that breeding in my dog if I had it now!
  17. Yes Gorger Collie is an absolute gem and never bummed up himself or his dogs. We fly our hawks in his company from time to time and love every minute of it......great man!
  18. I got my pal Collie a pure saluki bitch about 20 years ago off Night Ellington breeding from a friend of mine who's wife had been a championship show judge of salukis and who wrote the critiques in the saluki mags for many years. This was a black and tan bitch who killed hares in England and Ireland before we'd heard of these later dogs. My Willow bitch was bred from my own saluki bitch of more than quarter desert breeding that I bought off Noonie more than a decade ago. I'm pretty sure there would have been other salukis before these.
  19. And a girl breeding Border Collies said their eyes open at three weeks.....any pups I ever bred open their eyes between 12 and 14 days....am I wrong or what?
  20. Ahh, that Nibs... seen in the pics... Yes BOSUN11.....a low profile type of hunting man after my own heart.
  21. I've still the same bitch bred out of Willow...living in the house like a child. Why do you ask?
  22. Well Nibs you and I hunted together over 30 years ago and for the benefit of members who may think you're a greenhorn, I have to say that you were one of the best hunting companions I ever had...never afraid to stick your arm up an earth...because you had the sense to read the situation...and never too egotistical to give an honest appraisal of another mans dog. We owned that mountain that Iceman now has dominion over and took fox, hare, rabbit, trout and hazelnuts off it before many of these kids were out of nappies. Good to hear from you, you old granda you!!
  23. f**k that fooking collies are you loosing the plot milliet .lol Lol.. i was thinking the collie would put a bit of brain in them aswell as bring the bullx deerhound size down a bit..
  24. Steve and you guys must be proud of these pups....well reared from start to finish.
