DOG,S BRED FROM A,SANKEY,S STUFF
BOLIO1 replied to black recking it's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Dont think so D, I gave old Max (Smokey x Dancer) back to Alan about a year after I had bred him to my saluki bitch in 2003 as he wanted to use the dog to breed double bred Dancer pups but I'm not sure that the double bred ones were ever as good as might have been expected....I may be wrong? -
They were/are both top men but to try to place one above the other is not relevant. Both men will have had other strings to their bow. I've known Alan since first visiting with him in the 80's and he impressed me with his dedication to whatever he applied himself to even then. No television for him.....work, dinner, dogwork, bed......! I'm sure Craig was the same. Both these men have enough sense to respect each other. I remember the 1998 Forley when some of the hangers on were trying to take bets that Foxy would win on the strength of her match record. But these yearly comps were not matches

Why Gsdxg Malxg Will Be Faster Than Saluki X
BOLIO1 replied to blackgreyhound's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Sounds very much like the argument that a fellow down the pub would be a world champion boxer because he has a 16" diameter fist and a pair of fancy trainers. The best crosses are those which have succeeded most often in stiff competition methinks. -
What I mean to say is that if any of these exotic crosses were in the same league as the "fen plodders", wouldn't one of them have surfaced then.......or is it just a case of making big claims now that they can't be tested by the same yardstick?
-
When it was legal the top lurcher coursing competition was the Forley Cup. All the finalists had to win through to compete on the big day. Every single dog that I'm aware of who made the cut was a saluki cross....except for one....the only purebred dog to make it to the final .....and she did so on three occasions....was T Griffiths Shady, a pure saluki!

I'd love to pal.....have to see what work dictates

Just wonder if your vet has considered rhabdomiolysis.......some city vets may not.....?
-
You picked the right shift there Stevie......legs in the air on the return journey
-
Something to look forward to Tommy. The English coursing lads always looked after us Irish and Northern Irish when we went over......lets face it we would never have had the privilege of running our dogs on that prime land at prime hares without their generosity and openness. We used to think county Louth had big land.

Solar panels wont work when they're covered with snow, autumn leaves or dust. Nor on cloudy days....even if you are lucky enough to have them installed on a south facing roof. I would go with the tested and proven power supply that has lifted mankind out of the dark ages and into the modern age of civilisation in the first world.....there's nothing worse than losing a freezer full of produce that you've built up over a hard worked season because the sun didn't shine or the wind didn't blow at the right speed....!

Housework......HOUSEWORK?......don't talk to me about housework! The duchess broke her leg last weekend and I've had to learn how to operate the sink, the washing machine, the hoover, the shovel, the cooker, feed the livestock and endure endless demands for furniture rearrangement.....why couldn't she have broken something useless.... like her mouth?

Eggs are good but if it was a lack of eggs that caused his weight loss the other dogs would be light too. Seems like something else is going on. Did he have a hard spell of work prior to dropping weight? Has his urine turned dark?
-
And don't forget a warm, dry, draught free bed so he isn't shivering off his weight trying to keep warm.

Lets See Your Hare Dogs Catch One Of These!!
BOLIO1 replied to pattstaff's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Those rheas can run but as a bird lover I can't enjoy watching that. Soughing is what the brown hare often does on fenland....taking refuge up a drain, or pipe. -
This reminds me of an article I read years ago written by an American lady whose vet had discovered her saluki had an enlarged heart,,,,double the normal size....and had condemned the dog to a lifetime of medication, never to be allowed a free run off the leader. When the dog was 8 or 9 his owner moved house and got a new vet who was more familiar with salukis. The new vet explained that salukis do indeed have a heart that is naturally up to twice the size of other dogs of similar size. It turns out that the ignorance of the first vet had robbed the dog of his freedom for all that time!

That bitch was bred out of a bitch called Sky that I had off Alan S, out of Dancers dam Jodie and a half brother to Dancer's sire Black Arse, called Blue (I think?). So 3/4 same way bred as Dancer. Then a brindle dog off Noonies Beast (by Drax) that I gave Barry's dad, over Sky produced her.
