  1. yes the dog in question was a 1st cross collie greyhound and very well known around my area as he helped school numerous pups on the big stuff [pre ban] cant seem to find my downloaded pics of him but when i do i will post one for you
  2. why not post it? nice to see if your not after them on that particular day, would prefer them on a sunday dinner tho
  3. it started off ok but typically went to pieces,no wonder lads are leaving this site :cray:
  4. the dog in question mate WOULD not be pulled around by a roe i assure you it was built like a brick shit house with a set of shoulders to be proud of. i knew it would be doubted by afew [fair play] but like a few posts have said it can be done [very very handy dog] atb billy
  5. its funny how this post came up when a keeper mate of mine just got off the phone and told me that the hares on his patch have some sort of virus[ not mixy lol] a farmer had noticed a few werent getting up from there seat when he was rolling the fields ,i think they will be sent to defra or whoever deals in that stuff
  6. i didnt do reds mate just roe and yes he took a few knocks but he never let go and this isnt a wind up i reckon more collie crosses may have adapted to this type of hold as they got older and wiser i did put a pic up of this dog a while back on this same topic
  7. i wont start an argument mate but this dog done what i said he done on numerous occasions with plenty of hard working lamping lads as proof im no fxcking jackanory you never saw the dog do it so you assume he didnt?
  8. i owned a 1st cross manyyears ago 26 tts best working dog i ever owned no good on hares but they werent my thing, teeth were easy for him didnt take him long to suss out how to keep a deer still [he would just grab them by the hock and wait till i got there] fantastic ferreting dog good ratter i would recommend one to anyone new to the sport as they are easy to train and very loyal to there master
  9. you deserved all the stick you getting for biting .just keepon knocking on doors if you dont get any permission do what every one else does -POACH
  10. congratulations lads on a cracking write up and a good size bag of rabbits ,but what i like about this post is that lads are inviting other lads to have a good nights lamping and no doubt a good friendship is born my kind of people atb billy[ex lurcher man]
  11. i have to agree to a post on the doberman breed being very nervous and touchy, probably because the breeders spoilt them in the 70s &80s. my dad owned one and it was a nervous wreck ,personally i wouldnt cross one with a greyhound.on the other hand someone mentioned alsation x greyhound, a few lads i knew ran them and they done the buissiness on the big stuff and they kept there gaurding instincts to ward there owners muuch to the despair of a few keepers who tried it on with them -silly buggers
  12. i reckon it was a genuine mistake mate ferret in the wrong place at the wrong time ,and it doesnt take much from a lurcher to knack one have a bit of faith in the dog it probably wont happen again in your whole life time
  13. fecking brilliant this
  14. persevere and it will come good atb billy
  15. i live in jarrow mate and your book wiould be well looked after.i have the training spaniels book by joe irving but a freind advised me to have a look at the learning chain,he had just gave his away to someone down country.im picking a pup up on sunday and wanted to see if there was anything i could learn from it. if you wanted a swap i could do that mate. if your too far away i will giveit a miss and probably just buy the book via internet
  16. hi, has anyone got the learning chain book i can borrow. any help appreciated atb-billy
  17. looks like one of the smaller breeds mate whippet x canny little thing tho atb with pup
  18. i had a cocker bitch that was a great worker but did struggle with larger birds so if your doing a lot of wild fowling it would be a lab in my opinion
  19. good topic but its just falling off the rails mate -argument
  20. collie crosses sometimes do that ---but i loved the 1st post !
  21. at least we all agree on something -coppers are fecking wankers!
