  1. A lot depends on how you raise your dog. Mine are raised with terriers so tends to copy and use their nose before using their eyes when pups. It is not always a good thing a lurcher using it's nose, especially if it prefers this to using it's eyes. But if the dog gets it right and only uses it's nose after it cannot see anything, or changes to eyes after it has flushed with the nose then you are onto a winner I've an old bull cross bitch here who works just like a terrier.....a pain when terriers are in thick dense cover, you want the running dog on the outside to catch, not her, she is in
  2. Thanks francolin Why rinse? Why not put it in soil?
  3. Would someone please explain this (as if you were telling a 5yr old) please.
  4. The odd time i do walk them in civilisation i am ultra cautious. If i see someone approaching with dogs, they go on the lead, the same if i come to a blind bend and i cannot see what is coming. It is not worth the risk, my dogs need to be sociable around others for hunting, are quite capable of seriously injuring or killing another dog, and other dogs the same to mine, they are too valuable to me to end up with some injury ending/ limiting their work or preventing me from hunting with others and their dogs. Dogs are not 100% safe in any situation, they can change for no reason whatsoever...ev
  5. I would say the opposite with biscuit Sarah. Biscuit will actually stick in the teeth (the same as it would for you and i) and a great many lurchers dont even crunch it anyway...down in one Bones are really the only way to help keep teeth clean.
  6. Golden eye ointment or Optrex now do eye drops you can buy over the counter for infected eyes, it contains Chloramphenicol the same ingredient in most of the ointments a vet prescribes
  7. Gold tops Deliberately bred as brooders. http://www.moorlandspoultry.co.uk/goldtop.html
  8. I asked because i had a bitch went down hill fast, similar-ish to yours, she would pick up with ab's and steroids then go down again and not respond the next time, hers was an auto immune disorder and had to be pts. Please get the dog pts rather than let is die (not saying you would) if it is similar to Nell's condition then it will die a nasty death if left.
  9. No need to be shirty Dougall A couple of facts for you. The above info you refer to was taken from the www. If you do a search for pro or against boosters you will find compelling info on both. Just because something is written on the internet don't make it fact, people will just choose what THEY want to believe....get my drift I do not booster my dogs, because of the reasons written above, but always had a niggling doubt in the back of my mind, so when i got a bit of money together titre tested all 5 of mine and one bitch several years old came back as not covered. So statistical
  10. You get more humidity from larger surface areas, rather than deep water. Can i ask what you are hatching for a humidity of 85% Also if in doubt have two different hygrometers to make sure.
  11. Have they tested the bloods for anything?
  12. More diverse prey species in the South, easier winters which allows more hunting time. So probably easier to hunt in the south for man and dog. Gotta be tougher and more dedicated to hunt oop north
  13. Can you not just plant them in soil?
  14. Seems to be a lot of info regarding EBT's and allergies http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=english+bull+terrier+allergies&meta=
  15. On again now at 21.00hrs
  16. I'm sure you can buy Hibiscrub without a vets. It is only a germ killing disinfectant wash.
  17. Not always a waste of time. I do not booster either but had them tested one year for immunity levels. Out of 5 dogs none were covered for distemper and one had none for parvo. My vets are brill, advised not to bother with the ones for distemper as it is practically eradicated but to booster the bitch with no parvo coverage, which i did that year. Not all dogs are safe without boosters, it is the owners choice and risk to not do so. Not everything written on the web is 100% accurate. I decided to booster every 3/4 yrs just to make sure. They will probably not refuse you treatment because yo
