  1. Had a lovely wee track bred bitch from Ireland - got her last summer...started to hunt her about with the big dogs and she did okay - she would actually follow the other into whins and could use her nose a bit - but she shattered foreleg just days before last Christmas while in hot pursuit...put her to sleep...she wasn't the biggest 25" and 54lbs just not robust enough for the ground I run...pity as she was a really nice natured wee thing...might have been a good brood one day... Had an ex flapping bitch away back in the early 80s one of the best fox dogs I've ever seen...killed first fox
  2. Depends totally on the breed, smaller types, whippet and whippet x should be all done at around 12 months and some bigger breeds collie xs maybe 14/16 months and bigger still breeds ie, deerhound/deerhound xs might be as much as 18 months or 2 + years before fully grown...
  3. TS & CJ not nice lads...been there several times before...and know exactly how you feel... Put my old Border terrier to sleep last July, he was 16, and if you ever need proof that it never gets easier I'm that proof...had dogs for 35 years and him going left me shredded...
  4. That's pretty much beyond words...and it's not often I am stuck for something to say...totally beyond the comprehension of normal folk... Utterly disgraceful way to treat an animal - hopefully someone, somewhere will know who's responsible and if there's any justice for this wee thing they'll get what's coming to them...don't think I've ever seen a worse case of barbaric cruelty...
  5. Good luck - hope you find a decent home for her...like the idea of you going to vet prospective owners...best of luck...
  6. Aye mate - you ain't f***ing joking - it's that rare you can't see it...
  7. Jenga? KerPlunk? Trivial Pursuit? Snakes and Ladders? Is that the kinda thing you mean????
  8. Maybe the dog's not the prick...
  9. Gnasher, as a metaphor for bringing on a pup I reckon it's a good one - it struck me when I heard it...all those years ago...and it's not too far off the mark as far as I am concerned... I think you've taken in more in the literal sense to be honest...
  10. She got 30 months...whole lot shoulda got 30 years each...
  11. I remember many years ago hearing the quote below from Cus D'amato who trained Floyd Patterson, Jose Torres and Mike Tyson and thinking this could apply to lurcher or terrier pups also and wouldn't be a bad way of going about things...always been in the back of my mind when working with young dogs...maybe a bit off the wall...hey but that's me...off ma f***ing heid... "A boy comes to me with a spark of interest and it becomes a flame. I feed the flame and it becomes fire, I feed the fire and it becomes a roaring blaze" - Cus D'Amato, 1908-1985
  12. Or it NOT getting lost in the post - surely that'd be a bigger nightmare - actually having to read the fecker
  13. Well, f**k me I thought you could, would and did read every single PM sent on here...and I've heard all mods and admin are fully in cahoots with RSPCA, LACS and that cuuunt Brian May...I don't believe it though - but perhaps you can clear this up Paulus????
  14. On a positive note - spoke to Brian yesterday and he's confident he'll have his bitch 'Topic' back by the end of the week...which must be a good thing....
  15. Be a pretty poor site if everyone had that mentality -
  16. Someone's enjoying life... https://www.(!64.56:886/photo.php?v=10151613069822323
  17. Dunno how many times this shit has been on here - twice in the last week I reckon...makes no odds one way or the other...inside, outside...take yer pick...and why coursing-lad reckons they would "run harder" is beyond any logical thinking...
  18. Greyhound Rescue Wales. They'll have a record somewhere I've no doubt. The advice I posted was not to use a shock collar, because I don't think they are necessary unless the dog is old and set in it's ways, and that there is no set time for a dog being stock-broken. I know - heinous heresy, isn't it? Chill guys, I'm away for now. Dog needs rescued again -
  19. What about teaching the basic's like sit, stay, retrieve etc, these are all obiedience training like stock breaking So what your saying is that a heavily blooded deerhound dog is not trained the basic's until they're 2 + ? That's exactly what's being said Johnny - see the Help with Stock Breaking thread from Saturday...old saying some folk shouldn't have dogs has never been more apt...
  20. you admit to being a beginner, so why won't you listen to what others are trying to tell you, you have contradicted yourself far to often to be taken seriously. My dog is next to stock every day - lambs loose on the path - two foot away. He totally ignores them. He comes in to heel when called. I'm just not happy to let him off with the number of lambs we have around at the moment. He's not broken to horses because there aren't any around, same with cattle. I've taken advice off here before and found it very useful - I'm delighted to take advice - tell me what more I can do. if he doe
  21. Agree with you on this Lab - how many of us would stand by and watch our livelihood threatened or taken away? I know I wouldn't. To get to the stage of posting flyers through doors he must have been getting it tough. He coulda had a better attitude though - farmers are famous for being grumpy c**ts...
