Never used one mate - never had the need...dogs - irrespective of their makeup should be stock broken as soon as they can get out and about...no ifs, buts or excuses...and having a 2.5 year old deerhound x that isn't stock broken is laughable and to make excuses for it is bordering on the ridiculous...

f**k OFF - I thought you were being serious - pissed off now...been thinking about this x for months and you were only having a laugh...maybe tomorrow eh???

This works - don't forget to praise the dog if he goes through sheep or lambs without bothering them. Mine is still learning but fine with new lambs jumping around 2 feet away from him. He's on an extendable lead at the moment but will come off that in the next few months. He's very excited by rabbits, but not sheep, but I wouldn't trust him not to chase if he was off the lead and the sheep were running. Forget the shock collar - it's not necessary, except perhaps for an older dog. It takes time to stock-train a dog and your dog is only a year old. It's not a nightmare - it's part of y

Robert is an extremely nice lad. With some help he'll get the dog sorted out. He is a nice dog and will do well for Robert...

There really are some interesting comments on here...... So Jackie Drakeford, well-known working dog trainer and author, won't let her deerhound-cross dogs out in public for two years, but you sort your deerhound X's out at three months old? Hmmmmmm....... It's a fact that you have made a fool of yourself but now you are running the risk of becoming a pest and therefore someone who is never taken seriously on here...and only ever ridiculed...Jackie Drakeford???? I stand by my posts 100%... Also stand by my assertion that you are making a fool of yourself... Take care - Colin...

It was a female and it was caught on August 12th 1984 - wasn't very big - perhaps smaller than the usual female mink but it was a rich blue/grey colour...had one or two like it...rare though 'cause we killed hundreds of mink here in the Borders...I'm sure I have better pics somewhere...
-
Here's a pic of blue mink I caught more than 30 years ago - not too great a pic I'll accept but you'll get the gist - used to trap and dog dozens every year...mostly the normal minky rich black/brown white chest and chin but now and then there'd be different colours...thought I had better pics of this mink but it appears not...

who said scottish cooking was dead..................cover it flour and fry it.......so easy........... Loving that mate - classic

Got 2 daughters and 3 sons - daughters are special...congratulations... Lukey - who's a member on here spotted some pics I had up of my wee girl a few weeks back, liked her name that much he PMd me to say him and his Mrs are calling their daughter due in August, the same name... Good luck lads...
-
Knew an old lad many years ago (long dead now) proper old countryman who had a lab x grey...he swore by it...it didn't look much though. But that, I think, was part of the attraction...it put some stuff away too...I was a wee laddie and easily impressed but it certainly knew the job...

Totally agree mate - some folk just shouldn't have dogs...they're far to smart for advice though... I too agree with this a dog is a dog and stockbreaking needs inbedding early. I have a dog here that is good with all stock apart from pigs. A tug on a lead and a stern NO is going to do sweet FA ..... Dogs that are shit with stock invariably have never been in amongst stock early enough in their lives (let down by their owners)...mines are 100% with all stock...we have pigs and hens here too...I just can't afford to have dogs which may let me down with stock...it's just a big no no!!!!
