This works - don't forget to praise the dog if he goes through sheep or lambs without bothering them. Mine is still learning but fine with new lambs jumping around 2 feet away from him. He's on an extendable lead at the moment but will come off that in the next few months. He's very excited by rabbits, but not sheep, but I wouldn't trust him not to chase if he was off the lead and the sheep were running. Forget the shock collar - it's not necessary, except perhaps for an older dog. It takes time to stock-train a dog and your dog is only a year old. It's not a nightmare - it's part of y

There is no excuse not to have the stock breaking process started when their first jags are finished...even earlier for me as I have sheep in the field at the rear of my house...and yeah now and then when I'm out I'll make them sit and let sheep steam out in front of them...just simply can't have dogs that would chase sheep here...just a little aside...I knew a guy (he'll be hunting in hell now - and loving it probably) who ran sheep as a matter of course...had a good and ready market for them...his dog was very very good at taking sheep...it was a Belgian Shephed x German Shepherd...a long lo

Yeah???? And know of 3 here who'll chew a hole in a door to get out with you if left at home...???? A dog kept outside should not be subjected to cold and rain should it??? A damp free and draught free kennel is a must??? No??? And as for getting used to rain in kennels - ????? That can't be good for them eh??? All jmo tho??????

You've lost me. What have your poaching exploits got to do with lamping hares? All very interesting, but please try and stay on topic rather than using this as a way of promoting your own past deeds. 'Blown to bits'? That's a very emotive way of describing some shot hares. It's a bit like shooters saying 'Torn to bits' when talking about dogged hares. Neither is a correct description, nor do they do anything to help.lockquote> Ah reckon Matt the Rat needs to chill out a bit...blackgreyhound is a strange one I'll admit and does get a bit emotive...life'

Mate - with respect the softer paws thing is total shite - mines live in the house and their feet are more than up to the job... And that goes for terriers and big dogs -

With 14 lurchers I'm not surprised cash is in short supply...that must be a nightmare...why you have so many...?

Same around here - many of the fields I used to hunt and the hedgerows I used to ferret when I was a lad have been built on and ripped up...houses now...and once it's gone, it's gone for good...no going back... -

U need Mal/GSD/Huskie x grehound to kill crows and pigeons mate...
-
100% agreement on that one - in/out makes no odds to working ability...
-
Mines big -plenty space and 3 acres outside...have to laugh at the "whoa - don't keep working dogs in the house brigde" and they'll be along here soon - I know one guy who thinks all dogs should be outside no questions f**k me u should see his set up...rough and ready is a nice way to describe it... and stinking shithole would be more accurate mines happy and that's what counts... its personel choice mate, i dont believe in or out makes one scrap of difference to a dogs working ability, but for me the workers being kenneled works better, especially with all this wet weather in the last seas
