He's closer than you think

All the agricultural and hunting scene is full of back stabbers and fuckwits that either want your dog, land or job. And yet I've had a good life, I've enjoyed the company of good men, better dogs and I'm still here with all the hoops we have to jump through.

That poor vixen was in a piss poor condition, the snow had been down for a couple of days and she'd stayed in throughout. We very nearly walked past, in fact truth be told I did, the old boy with me tried it and said the dog was marking. I told him not to bother because there was no trade but when I saw the dog mark I changed my mind, 1 foot dig and she was despatched quickly with no fuss or cruelty involved

I had two in two days off this particular estate, both keepers use thermal imaging, it doesn't make them shoot any better.

There's already been people killed, I remember one bloke shooting his step son !. Just how you couldn't keep track of where the boy was is anyone's guess and to not be able to identify him through scopes !

If it wasn't for Barrie Wade and his team we'd have no terrier work

That must of been hard MG, fair play, I've had to eat the humble pie myself on here once or twice

Yes, just a change of batteries and you're away.

I've used them all and I can't see any difference, at least the bellman is made for digging, get the barryvox covered in shit and they won't honour any guarantee. As for digging down the side if a dog, I'm long in the tooth enough to have used a bar, I still use a bar on most digs to but in no way can you work out which way your dog is pointing. The only way you can work it out is with an educated guess after following it with the box. The old knocker box was by far the best for this but I wouldn't go back ever. I'll give you an example of the use of the bellman and it's massive benefi

The older I get the more my dogs live in, they all have the run of the yard throughout the day then they get put under lock and key at night. There's two old farts that live in permanently and the rest just guilt trip me into giving them a few hours by the fire. In all honesty I can't see me keeping in the terriers much longer, I'm getting to soft and although I've spent all my adult life digging I'm slowly but surely getting sick of the hassle. Give your pups the best you can, keep them in for as long as you can, it won't make them soft, it will socialise them and give you a better bond.

Working Terrier/hunting Art Work
dillydog replied to Rat face's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Not the clearest picture bad light, I've always liked this print, Mike Sibley "overlooked" -
That's my yard stick Topper, I enjoy having a pup about me but when it gets to a size the pools of piss are to much then out it must go

When you get sick of standing in piss

They can be wet and warm and cold and dry but they don't like to be wet and cold

If I could find a stinking shit hole full of rats I'd be at them like a tramp on a kipper but they're not as common as they once were. Do I think they're a good craic "yes" I run around like a school boy giggling like a loon. However, I would never say it would be the equal of earth work where a terrier is expected to stay till the job is done come what may "alone in the dark". Just my honest opinion, I wish you well Keith and long may you enjoy your sport.

Take them for what they are, time to catch up and have the craic

You hang in there Lew, almost everything in that picture has come back into fashion

No mate, the only thing in common with Toby was he was black. I was 14 in that picture, I didn't own Toby until I was in my early twenties.
-
Still got the same woman and still got the black's, they were right, they're no good.
-
He was the first black dog I had and the first black terrier on my estate, it was a hotbed of Russell's, all I ever heard was it'll be to hard and no good.

I was explaining why my dogs only stick under an hour

Isn't that exactly what's said right there ?
