  1. Fair play, good luck with them, my bitch is full too. There is a God after all
  2. Another season gone and we're another year older and wiser. I'm hanging up the spade now too FM, I'm glad it's all going well for you mate.
  3. I don't know if Clive goes out to Ireland
  4. Adding beagle to russell blood is nothing new, it was happening around here before I started. It was before my time so I never got to see them work either, I can ask a few old boys later how they went, the lad that did the mating blew his head off over women problems so no chance of asking him without a Ouija board. Was it women or was it the outcross would be my first question !
  5. PM the details over my way too please mate, I've always regretted not taking straws off my old dogs.
  6. A line can't exist in one man's yard Neil, again it's only my opinion but within a few years you'd box yourself in genetically and you'd have no more options should thing go pear shaped. That's the benefit of knowing a few good yards of the same family of terriers, we can't be omnipresent and dig to all dogs, in all places. I know I struggle to find the work for mine from time to time, so I keep a small yard going. I know plenty of other yards with the same, or similar blood so I always have options available and we can swap pups or mating along the way.
  7. I have no choice but to use the 410 at the minute, it's my mates and plods got no sense of humour. Given a choice though I'd always take the .22 no mess, no smoke and all but silent
  8. We're all just polishing turds, every line that exists now existed in one form or another before we were even thought of. The so called Stevens line, is a mix up of some Nuttall, some Gould and some Park blood. Nothing new in any of it, it's just a family of dogs that have been bred tight from a nucleus of good working genes. As conceited as he is he never set out to create a line of dogs, no one but Plummer would dare to consider such a bold statement. We've only got one lifetime, I don't know about you boys but it's hard enough keeping what we've already got going in the right way with
  9. its a tricky one, by using a firearm only agreement means you admit the the other is wrong also, where gas should have said its how it happens in nature and kept both methods I'm not admitting anything lol, I've had my run ins with the powers that be and these days I'd sooner educate myself and never give them the ammunition to hit me with.
  10. I love to see nature at work myself mate but you wouldn't believe the lads walking around with their head up their arses totally oblivious to the law of the land. Never give them a stick to beat you with, the great Tony Blair once said "education, education, education"
  11. We have a duty of care placed upon us by the law under the "wild mammal protection act 1996" to not cause any unnecessary suffering. The pistol or captive bolt, takes away the need to handle the fox, the pistol or firearm, be it folding 410 or .22 is by far the better option.
  12. I'd say you'd be better off with a folding 410 shotgun but for those without any license what so ever I'd be getting the captive bolt

  14. Never miss an opportunity to line your pocket, £1000 a pup with a guarantee for life and everyone a chocolate
  15. If we're talking historically, I used the spade (cosh), it was the accepted legal way and believe me it was as quick as any bullet. I cringe when I say it now, times have changed, and I'd say for the better. The first time I saw a .22 pistol used on a dig was a real eye opener, it was more professional and took all the hassle out of the end product. I was once in court for "causing unnecessary suffering to an animal, namely, a terrier type dog arising from digging a fox without permission" ! A bit of a mouthful, but that was the charge. A representative of the FMWTC came along to explain that
  16. Why would seven be the last chance at breeding, my bitch is twelve and she's as full as a butcher's dog
  17. I've skipped through most of the thread, if you're happy with what you hunt then more power to you. Plucky, you lost me when you said your kill method was quicker than a .22 bullet !
  18. The button is a pain in the arse when it start to play up, but then again the sliding switch on the peips is as prone to breakage. I've never seen a screen broke on a red brick but I've seen plenty of the peips screens broke. IMO neither give a perfect mark, they're both close enough to be on the money with practice and knowledge. The brick is IMO a better box, more sturdy and without the annoying noise.
  19. It's natural instincts and abilities that creates the terrier, it's the amount of work and kennel management that moulds it into the finished article. IMO a terrier won't be in it's prime until it's third season, there's always the exceptions. I can't do an under 10 second 100 MTR sprint but there's people that can, it's the same with dogs, some are just naturals.
  20. Great pic dd . As biddable as all mine are there s no chance of mine doing that without me there. As soon as the mrs was on her own it would be carnage. Do you never have problems with a young dog feeling his feet There's one who's not in that picture that isn't in that gang, he's treated like a leper, he's ok while I'm around but he's one of those strange b*****ds that won't mix.
  21. A few chilling by the boiler, three more in front of the fire
