  1. Once a Collie bred mongrel captivates your soul they have an habit of making 50 years pass by far to quickly. If i knew now what a decent collie cur taught me back in the day then its only my own ego and ignorance that made me stray from the path,im not to far behind you Phil.
  2. Lakey and Fell to me depict the same type of terrier and at one time they conformed to a standard type and shape, with a little colour variance. You only need to look at many of the books, pics etc. that depict the lineage and virtues of the Lakeys/Fells of olde to establish an idea of the conformation of the terriers of that age and they were likes peas in a pod for millenia until the advent of the ribbon and dollar.Liams mutts do not depict the Lakey/Fell that i knew and know.liams mutts not showy enough Morton Possibly the least important factor id seek in a terrier is the ribbon factor, ive
  3. In the not to distant past Lakelands that resembled Lakelands grafted to a level most terriers never reached, except Bedlingtons .The vast majority of folk that wished for a working Lakey in the not to distant past had little interest in a red, yellow or blue ribbon.id rather own Liams type of terrier, yet they do not resemble the Lakeys of old and thats what he depicted them as.show me one Frain is frowned upon for many a good reason, yet his book illustrates the terriers of the time and you need only a cursory glance at the Fell/Lakeys in his useless scribblings to scratch at the worth of the

  6. Im a massive Lakey fan and don,t have much patience for any terrier that masquerades as anything other than a terrier, yet the mutt he depicted bore little resemblance to a olde type Lakey and thats a fact.If you quote old type depict old type and not another run of the mill working terrier that is bred towards a Lakey. If the lads mutts graft thats all that counts and ill bang his drum louder than most, its not a Lakeland more of a Lakey type.
  7. It will never become a worker unless you gain the ability to post pics of it.
  8. Ive yet to see a lure meet with a fox on the end of the line. The majority of mutts chasing a flapping rag are meeting their equal and anything in the real world would be a step to far for their true ability.
  9. The amount of fully vaccinated mutts ive seen die through parvo and distemper around this locality. The best dog vet around this area,Skipton, advised a few of us years ago that it was a waste of brass to vaccinate the dogs and he never vaccinated any of his.Ive lost dogs that where vaccinated, ive lost less dogs that were not and ive not vaccinated a dog in over 30 years.Ill wager more folk than me have seen vaccinated mutts sicken and die with what they have been vaccinated against and many more vaccinated pups that have survived something they have never come into conflict with. Its a given fac
  10. Its difficult enough to encourage a decent terrier or lurcherman to judge ,its far more difficult for them to judge decent working jukels now.Any dog a decent judge as at hand will be judged on merit, its good manners to resist the urge to show your mutts when you are involved with the show.
  11. Looks nothing like an olde type Lakey, except some of the colour.Seriously if folk look at these type of pictures and imagine it represents the working lakeys that where evident less than 3 decades ago its a poor reflection on the lakey kennels now.
  12. Rubbish, the best lurcher owner,trainer,etc,etc.etc.cannot polish a turd long enough to make it a shiny fecking slayer. If the mutt is not bred to do a certain task then its a waste of time spending brass on polish to shine the surface when underneath its a turd.
  13. The biggest problem with line bred Bull/Greys is they don,t own the pace to suffer long and gruelling gallops, thus what fecking use would they be to a mutt that needs the ability to sustain a long arduous chase?. I've seen Bull crosses with the pace for the job. The only bull type lurchers with pace owe it to whats else is in the mix, fact. The bull in the mix is often a negating factor in a venison lurcher.
  14. If i was a fallow id piss on a lightweight lurcher, the majority of the time,id succumb to anything with the size and pace for fallow that was bred with the intention of bumping something within its range.I dined on a 10month old fallow a while back that met a pup about its age,if that pup would have been a smaller and less robust adult id have gone hungry.
  15. The only problem i find with fallow is how to get them into a casserole, the fecking dish won,t fit into the stove.
  16. The only problem with Salukis,if we are to be honest, they are not honest enough at the catching stage.

  18. The majority of quarry we run over here is restricted within a very small range compared to an atlas of europe,if the quarry we ran, ran over european borders id be reluctant to pursue it.Id say we have more to hunt over here than you have over the pond Dan and better dogs to do it with.
  19. I fail to understand the mentality of folk that require a silent busher, its like an ashtray on a motorbike. The finest bushing companion i ever owned had a tone in her vocabulary that could be read to indicate what was in front of her and how close she was to the chase. The lurchers and guns that are present when my bushers give voice are often rewarded by the serenade of the chase and react accordingly,a lazy gun or lurcher is often woken from its slumber by the sound of the ratchers at hand. The way i see it is the folk that require a more silent bushing companion have little idea of how to uti
  20. Ask Corbyn when he tied a plank to his arse and tupped it,she was nobody then but a ferrets fancy, now she,s a very rich ferrets fancy, the ugly fecking spunk tub did something right.
  21. Its a show i liked to visit, when the lurcher judge allowed a KC Bedlington into the ring a couple of years ago i stopped attending. If you want folk to take it seriously lurchers should be judged over and under, rough and smooth, separate classes for bull types is the reason many folk don,t take shows seriously now.Ill give it another go.
  22. In the recognised hunting season you will kill expectant mothers, weaning mothers and young,so i don,t recognise the moral high ground some hunters selectively utilise to get their point across. There is a recognised hunting season and the best we can do is attempt to hunt within those restrictions. Some are bound by factors that are non dependant on any recognised season and they have to hunt accordingly, the folk that use that excuse to justify their hunting lifestyle are the worst type of hunter.
