  1. The dog is keen and experiencing new exciting things in its life, keep it on a slip and pick the easiest of runs, ones that will have the best chance of catching,it won't hunt up while its holding a bunny, the more it catches the quicker it will learn to return and run again. If all else fails you will have a dog that can find and catch daytime.
  2. I used to take this fat fella to carry the caught bunny's,walking a field one day we see the farmer flying towards us in is Lanny,i knew if we could get to a fence close by the farmer could'nt drive through and we 'd be away, got to the fence and i nipped over,my mate was struggling with his weight and the bag of rabbits,he cocked one leg over lost his footing, caught his jeans and ripped his jeans and his skidders remained stuck to the wire,my mate was upside down screaming for assistance with the biggest, hairiest bollocks ive ever seen caught up in the barbed wire,i fell about in hysterics,i
  3. If feeding on a budget you sometimes, for the benefit of the dog, have to take the time to source some bones and meat scraps.Butchers, abbatoirs, supermarket skips.Or even freeze and feed stuff the dog should be catching.
  4. 3 types i don't like in the mix a.Terrier b.Whippet c.Bull.
  5. I don't see why people have a problem with the post, his dogs cannot catch daytime hares, even in summer,on their own. Thus he lamps leverets doubled up,how else is the lad supposed to catch anything and impress others.
  6. You'd lose the bet,id rather have a whippet than a Bullx.
  7. I said not to take the post to seriously, but IMO a bigger lurcher is a far better option in the field,i don't like to see a dog wrestling and sucking things to death.
  8. You should have got out more,or better tested it.
  9. Sensible young fella,as long as you are happy, the dog will do you proud.
  10. this is the dam with them Prefer the collie x.
  11. Ive seen some cracking little lurchers over the years, but why is it that some owners exaggerate the working ability of their smaller type lurchers?.If they are unhappy, then get something bigger and more useful. Now lets not take this to seriously!.
  12. Why the Collie x in the picture?.
  13. Watching an experienced Lurcher using its nose, following a scent, speeding up and becoming more excited as it closes in on its quarry, then the chase, course.Having the ability to deal with each and every situation.
  14. Would'nt be the 1st time ive done that,im just happy to sit on the laptop and pretend.
  15. What do you lads get out 1st,the ruler or the little fat fella?.
  16. When a dog shows more intelligence than the owner, the dog is always at fault, give a decent collie bred lurcher to the hunter with the least intelligence[im not getting at bullx owners]and that dog will catch, the ability of the owner to comprehend how best to utilise that dog is where the problems manifest themselves.
  17. Id have thought a dog running bunny's,day after day, night after night, would have greatly benefited from an infusion of decent collie blood. But i suppose that would depend on the owner and the dogs breeding.
  18. Id leave it until its a bit warmer and drier,no point in getting wet and getting the trainers dirty.
  19. Although i don't let the adult dogs become unfit out of season i do increase their roadwork about 6 weeks before the start of the new season, along with a slight increase in diet[barf].They are then entered gradually into the new season,as their fitness and stamina progresses they receive more and longer runs, hard days, nights,in the field will be followed by a rest day or two, they still receive roadwork. Its then a case of judging individual dogs performances, some need more rest, food, exercise, than others to keep them in optimum condition.
  20. two fine for me What do you mean by fine? not going two have a big head for what ill be doing with him THe dog looks a racey type, likely to make somebody a useful hunting companion. Why is it the young tyro's now are so hung up on the size of a dogs napper?.
