  1. Ive travelled for hours in company, then made the return journey without some of the dogs getting exercise, ive even done the odd dirty deed and had a 3 dog slip just so as the mutts got a chase.Ive nothing but respect for the lads that do the miles and put in the effort to give the dogs a gallop.Ill guarantee the more you make the effort the more slips you get, keep at it grasshopper.
  2. I realised many years ago that when the wellies need emptying, especially when you are wearing them, its time to call a truce,i wish i had your commitment now.
  3. Its an hard call,i would,nt take up kennel space for a dog that no longer earns its gruel,if im to be honest, ive a retired Beddy in the house that gave her all for 9 seasons, the next to retire won,t have that luxury. The facts of life are that they are dogs,if we kept every dog we retired through age or injury?.My life revolves around dogs and giving them the best i can, reality rips my heart out at times.
  4. What as terrorism got to do with Paedo,s and rent boy jockeys?.10 years?,its been going on for centuries, wake up and smell the real roses.
  5. Its never caused me bother and ive worked at least 5 or 6 bitches in whelp, over the years,if a little light graft and chewing on a small rodent restricted my terriers working life, even in pup,id take up knitting.I believe any resultant litter benefits from the immunity the mother builds up,especially from work related activity, each to their own i suppose.
  6. The lads have planned a trip out,the company is often as important as the nights tally. Before you set of you must realise you have little control over whats on the land, when you get there you do as you do,any runs a bonus, you learn the land and location and the second trip is often more fruitful.
  7. f***ing sausage mate all anal about this shit look Mate it's a f***ing dog to pal up with my little boarder I aint some full on working dog handler who eats shits and breaths them if I find a nice dog right price I'll have him just cus a pure line don't mean shit that is better than any other dog my little boarder cross was a pure accident and he shows plenty of potential cost me £150 I'd say ur a gullible idiot if your paying mad money for a dog may aswell take it to crufts next month and you show a dog the work if it's got the instinct it will go to ground simple as fucks me off can't even p
  8. Any dog that shows aggression in my house makes me realise ive bred or trained wrong, then ill attempt to rectify the situation.
  9. i was gifted a good Lakey dog a few years back,i had to take a 7 year old bitch as part of the deal, within a season she was bushing about with conviction, she was never in the same calibre as dogs that were entered as pups, yet she marked and showed plenty of commitment after a little education.
  10. Thats why i prefer the Beddy types,up on the leg and endless stamina, back to the original post, one of my biggest gripes is people with big bushing dogs that they believe will get through the tightest of cover, the facts are they cannot and never will with the speed necessary to get the job done,by the time the bigger bushers get a quarter of the way through a tight spot that holds, the inhabitant is away and safe, most of the time.People mistake what a busher is capable of in open land and sporadic cover, better suited to a bigger and speedier mutt, when the land is dense and restricted big bushers
  11. Ill work them above ground if they are comfortable to do it,ive never had a problem associated with a terrier and ratting,in whelp or not.If the dogs fit enough to accompany me its out with the rest,up until 8 weeks then i leave them at home, even at 8 weeks they are usually screaming to go.I don,t hold with the safety issues some mention,we can take every precaution and still get bitten on the arse, its knowing the bitch and making sure she,s comfortable in her work.
  12. Id forget about any training of the dog,for now, control any of your actions that cause the pup distress, let it seek its confidence zone and work from the pups strengths.I find nervous pups fare well if given to the kids to socialise with. Most pups gain confidence as they mature, some don,t.Id not be to worried as yet,the next few months will possibly reflect the youngsters hidden nature.
  13. Great post! I was the same, I wonder if the Dales rabbits makes everyone like that? If we didn't get thirty then we had the bottom lip out and wouldn't go home until we got over that figure. It was too easy in a way, but you get drawn into battling with yourself over that one more bunny syndrome. And heaven forbid if another team had gotten more.....when competition takes over the fun goes out of it all IMO....and now the places where we used to take all those rabbits from are almost rabbit less.....we thought the rabbits were like the magic pot of porridge; a never ending supply, but like all
  14. A lurcher is not the best tool for working A lurcher is not the best tool for working long nets, something slower and steadier is all thats needed,it needs the ability to cover the ground and push the bunnys towards the net,not the ability to chase and catch,a lurcher that could work them was a prized asset though.Ive tried a few times to teach a lurcher the art of long netting,i retired defeated.
  15. Buy a ferret, stick it in an hole and you have a ready made lure scampering out.
  16. Living in close proximity to the Dales it was only a matter of time before the "numbers game" took over my life.I spent year after year as the most dissatisfied bunny basher,if i caught 10 i wanted 11,then when i caught 11 i wanted 20.This path of blind obsession had me trading in mutt after mutt always wanting to source the ultimate running and killing machine. When i look back on my naive stupidity i realise these were the least enjoyable times i had with lurchers, the amount tallied was the only factor that mattered and the dogs often suffered because of it.Id encourage anyone with lurchers,i
  17. Thats were i have a problem,"they have saved you hours and hours of time",if saving time on a dogs education is better served by zapping it into education then id not own dogs,id rather take the longer route, the old school pathway into dog training, hours and hours of patience instilled into the mutts education process, lessons that may test the dog and owner, lessons that the owner best learns from failure and not electricity. Some dogs are better suited to shock, many owners find it suitable to cover their inadequate training ability by resorting to zap and obey, before lets learn the fundamentals
  18. What a load of bollicks, you been on the booze FD you usually make a lot of sense. Lol In the vast majority of circumstances the use of shock treatment on a dog is undertaken by lazy nuggets who don,t have a fecking clue, its the easy, lazy and ignorant solution to their own shortcomings, fact. At times these collars,in the right hands, save a dog that otherwise would become a cull, again fact.Striking the balance betwixt nuggets and lads with honest intent is a quandary best left to a little shock treatment?.
  19. I own one,i keep it in my secret drawer along with my rubber suit, bullwhip and handcuffs, much better than a good anal fisticuffs.
  20. Cracking picture Joe,it will possibly cause a few mixed emotions,a park hare that gets to run again, which is never a bad thing, yet a feeling of how false and pointless it seems.Does it distract from the image it portrays?,id rather see the hare run again, yet there is nothing more rewarding than the retrieve of the most gallant, fleet and testing of fair ran quarry, still a fantastic shot that may not need the intervention of hunting emotion.
  21. My idyll of a Deerhoundy dawg,id like to believe they had what the true Deerhound originally had to offer.
  22. Sister to that dog wins many a show, keeps the owner well stocked with rabbit pie and venison casserole, i believe she put a litter through it and said it had Beddy in its breeding, which came as a surprise to me.If i could change one of the mistakes ive made with lurchers it would be keeping the brother to the dog you lost,30" at 11 months old, hoovered up bunnys like a Dyson, massive pace, drive and determination and jumped obstacles at speed that made a roe look like a Corgi, but the noisiest fecking animal in the kennel ive ever had the misfortune to own. mine was 29" did the same in the ke

  24. Id forget what everyone else is doing,if honesty ever played a part in whats in the kennel then the truth would make for many a liar with an ego.Its not about what you catch that makes for the main purpose in owning and working a lurcher, that should be secondary, its what keeps the owner content thats important.Yet the lads that take the time, put in the effort and make the sacrifices, are often the ones that are better rewarded.

    Stevie G

Not even a little bit Alby ?,,,isn't there somewhere deep down in your bitter ,man utd loving heart that says " fair play , he was a good player " If I was you I would ask myself if I wasn't being biased just because he cant say "chicken " To me Alonso carried him for long enough, then the Biter made him look better than he was,one Champions league final when Carragher rallied the team and ran his blood to water and ably assisted by S.G. in possibly his best game, poor for England on to many occasions, one outstanding pass from Stevie was often clouded by the many poor passes he was better
