  1. I have no intention of improving any pure breed. Nor am I particularly bothered with first xs. Cant understand why anyone would be interested? Other than money....? There is enough deerhound blooded lurchers and first xs about to start a good working line without looking at introducing them kc registered beasts.
  2. On your certificate does it just say for "fox control"...? or fox and vermin?
  3. Hotmeat, I don't understand what what your trying to say? Are you suggesting that we try to improve the deerhound as a breed, or get a good line of working deerhound xs going?
  4. It seems on this thread some posts are referring to pure deerhounds and others to deerhound xs. Mine deerhound lurcher is 27tts and has a drop of beddy blood. He will do the job of a rabbiting whippet x, foxing bull x, and a daytime saluki x. He has early pace and blistering top end. Grit and determination by the bucket load. But the penny didnt drop till at least 18 months. Now at 3 and a half, he doest miss much.
  5. What??? I never said I slipped at 400 yards, read it properly. But, historically, when we used to be able to lamp foxes, you'd often find that your quarry would hold position until the dogs were near. Usually only running as the dogs became silhouetted in the beam. It's a shame you never got to experience running the big stuff as you'd have known that. Damn this bloody ban!!! Agree with that, or if they do run early they don't seem to go flat out. Until they see what's coming..... Wondering off topic though........
  6. I saw good numbers of crows on grass near me recently. Might be worth getting a few crow decoys and having a go at them........
  7. I don't like the patchiness in the light patten when its spread out. I like it fairly tight but not like a laser pen
  8. coursing is done in the daytime with a strict ethical code, please do not fall into the mindset portrayed by the media, lads driving fields can do so with both dogs and guns. these are the people who cause problems for the genuine dog lads and shooters alike. Again this does happen but is also used as another excuse far too often. Ethnical code? These guys had no ethnics. Just to tear up fields and smash gates. And don't start thinking typical shooter hate dogs as iv ferreted, Lamped and coursed before I started shooting. There maybe two honest in it for the sport lads to every ten lads with
  9. Agree with kranky, but if you get one now don't expect it to be working well till 2015/16 season.
  10. If you have to ask on here, it can't be that special
  11. also whippets I think they was on the wind up mate lol. Everyone knows a whippet couldn't catch a hare.....
  12. So to sum up, anyone seen walking a greyhound or lurcher is probably stealing agricultural machinery...... I'll be sure to phone the police when I see one........Tossers
  13. What is obvious is that they didn't care much for their dogs. If they did they would have pleaded not guilty and fought there case with the hope of getting them back.
  14. I have so far tried Winchesters, Eleys, RWS and cci subs in my new cz452. My gun preferred RWS for accuracy, and they grouped about an inch higher than the rest at 75m so maybe a bit flatter trajectory.
  15. Foxes stink, I move them from where they are shot to the nearest hedgerow. I picked one up last season, laid it in a ditch, got back in the motor and the smell on my hand was unbelievable it nearly made me sick. I cant remember if it was a dog or vixen. But I will never forget that smell, unmistakeable. Sometimes get a whif when out lamping on foot........
  16. The only bit I really get, is the idea of any dog not up to the job is culled, which IF working ability (as a whole) is passed down through generations then technically by now there should be less "wastage" in each litter..... Where as over here pups seem to be bred from anything. Like has been said the yanks seem more honest about their dogs ability. Saying that, I bet there are loads of dogs which were not bred from working dam and sire which make the grade with flying colours.......................... So whether it matters a f**k I don't know LOL
  17. If you hold them over a cliff they push back more......
  18. Why spend a fortune on getting staghound blood over here? staghounds are used to catch and kill coyotes, which obviously we don't have....... I understand the idea of "if they can handle a coyote then surely they would take a fox no prob". But what's to say that good fox dogs wouldn't take a coyote no prob? It seems the thinking is that because staghounds take a bigger predator they are better at the job?.......But there is no way of testing our good fox dogs over here on any bigger predator than a fox.... If foxes are your thing then surely you would rather a pup out of dogs doing
  19. Can you use a section 1 shotgun the same as a normal shotgun? With regards as to where you can use it? or is it like a FAC on closed conditions? Also does it go on your FAC or SGC? Cheers
  20. Agreed, us "organised criminals" just work our dogs, something which has been done for thousands of years. But some of these dirty f**kers are watching child porn and are rapists. Unbelievable. And these are just the ones that have been caught!! Really puts things into perspective.....Nice work cocker!
  21. Cheers. Rabbits, hare, pheasant, pigeon etc don't cost a penny, the chicken carcases cost me £8.50 for a big 15kg box (frozen) from the butchers, some give them away! I only feed a small amount of rice/pasta and liquidised veg which is cheap anyway. Opposed to £30/£40 15kg bag of beta dried food and about 80p each for the "prize choice" mince........
